Hello all, Long time lurker; first time poster.
I've been using Linux for about 3 or 4 years now. The entire time mainly as a means to record. If it wasn't for the band wanting to record demos and song ideas I guess my love of the penguin would have never started. I live in a smallish town between Kansas City and Lawrence, KS.
My first experiences were Dyne:Bolic, Ubuntu and Zenwalk live cd's. Ubuntu was the first version I installed onto a laptop, soon followed by Ubuntu Studio. Like I said this whole deal came about because as a band we didn't have the cash to go into the studio and to us we could spend the same money and record whenever we wanted. I stumbled my way into Linux through projects like Ardour and Hydrogen. When I learned about free software and what it stood for I was sold and I quickly volunteered to learn how it worked. As I went on in my adventure I became entirely sold on Linux, not just for audio. It's the only OS my Wife and I use and we are completely fine with that.
Recently the Wife talked me into buying a new computer instead of a new guitar. So now I've got an Intel i5 desktop with 8G of ram, 1TB HD, HD Graphics and a 24" monitor. My first ever new computer. I spent the last week configuring the new system. I started with an Arch base and I've been carefully choosing my apps. I want to keep the new system sleek. I've got some projects on that have been on the back burner for far too long, in the Wife's words, "it's time you start getting some of those started."

Hello Zen:Core, welcome! And sounds like an awesome machine! Good luck with the back burners, when you're finished I have two shoeboxes with cassettes and minidisks that need to be sorted out
Best,
Jeremy

Thanks for the welcome guys.
@AutoStatic: Dude! I haven't seen minidisks in years! I think I was the only guy in the Midwest that used them. I kind of miss that little player. Actually I think I still have it packed away somewhere.
The current project is then new yet un-named metal band.
The back burners are:
A Dub/ Ambient album.
Some Old Style Country/ Bluesy acoustic songs I've had lying around.
Another kind of Hardcore/Punk/Metal project of my own. We'll see how that turns out.
Plus, I'm trying to get some locals in here to record so I can build up a portfolio of sorts.
