why "bass studio"?"

Like some other computer programs, the initial version was probably inspired by the Roland 303, particularly the way its bass lines could be programmed. The software was probably intended to be a clone of the 303, but after awhile, its features became more generic and different from the 303. But the original 303-inspired bass name likely was retained because the initial version had already been released under that name.

That's my guess.

I didn't get that far, but I might skip this for now as well.

I just had a look at your issue on Github. I had no problem building the deps and that Python build script ran fine, but it baulked during the daw build at not being able to find "soxr-gnu-something" (from memory, I already closed the terminal and deleted everything).

Maybe another case of "someone managed to build it on Ubuntu FartyFartblaster" so it works on all Linux.

bass-studio does look worthy of checking out though. Sometime.

I've just got to here as well. Did you manage to go further?

Nope. As I said, I deleted everything. That includes all the build files. No big deal, I have other DAWs.
