MiniNova USB keyboard struggling w/ Linux

Hi everyone. Enjoying this AV-Linux MXExperience...

I plugged in a recent acquisition, a Novation Mininova, and I can't use it thru USB, tho I tried...

Modding the kernel is one option. Ultranova4linux (an "amateur" driver for the synth doesn't work on 2 OSes now).

Listening to some Terry Allen right now, and I'm confident this is workable. After all, I traded in my 20 year old MicroKorg and donated my other mini keyboard to be able to play a dash more lightly (USB). And room-wise, not to mention corderation... Alas...

Thanks for your lights on this issue.

I don't have the device, but here are things which I check when trying to debug such hardware problems:

  • Does the device have drivers for MacOS? If so, it is likely not "USB class compliant", making it difficult to work with on Linux.
  • Does the device run as expected in "standalone" mode (in the case of the MiniNova, using the external power supply, and plugging in headphones directly, do you get sounds?)
  • Does the system behave differently if the hot-pluggable (USB) device is plugged in when booting the machine, versus when plugging it in after booting?
  • What do the system diagnostics display? E.g. the output of $ lsusb --tree --verbose, before and after the device is plugged in.
  • Run $ sudo dmesg -w before hotplugging the device: what output shows up when you plug it in?

Since the MiniNova is not class compliant (MIDI), the USB connection is quirky.

The last entry suggests that modding the kernel would do the trick: https://askubuntu.com/questions/1140744 ... oesnt-work

Any ideas? Reverse engineering how-to's? Thanks to Gmaq partially I know now that a github driver (Ultranova4linux) for the Mininova doesn't work on two OSes of mine (JACK complications).
