AVLinux: can't boot last release from live usb stick

What other apps and distros do you use to round out your studio?

AVLinux: can't boot last release from live usb stick

Post by gabtram »

Hi to all. Yesterday i start to do some experiment with AVLinux. I'm just approching to linux music world so before install an os on my hard drive i prefer to try something.

I encounter my first block on OS! I install https://downloads.bandshed.net/AVL-MXE_21.3/ from here. Using rufus on windows 11 i copied iso on 2 usb stick. Using my old pc with old bios. In the first i set persitence to maximum and fat32 fs. In the second persistence to 4gb. In the first case i started set the persistence from the syslinux starting panel, set persistence for home and root but the live cd stop after shows xserver configuration. With the second usb i tried directly to start live cd without set persistence, nothing either happens. In both cases av linux didn't start before the prompt of the first image.
Also tried to start from another pc with uefi and secure boot tried to start with grub...and the livecd not starting: bad shim signature you need to load kernel first. But in this case ok...there is secure boot and i can't change uefi settings on that pc. Someone knows?

I made something wrong during usb burning iso? Some boot properties are incorrect? Can i try to view which cause the error? Maybe with a parameter to set during boot?

Thanks!
Gabriele

iommu=off

Hi,

thanks for your help!
I added your suggestions to the boot options: i receive a general error. I attached a screen image, sorry i hate screen image but i cant do a screenshot in this case :)
Anyway i'm thinking about something: the linux kernel version is: 6.0.0-10.1-liquorix-amd64... maybe avlinux run only with amd cpu?

My desktop pc have 10 years and have:
asus p7p55d mobo
intel core i7 2nd gen 2,93
amd radeon hd 5670

Maybe some conflicts?

i have always booted a live cd in this pc without anyproblem.

Thanks
Bye

That's strange. Did you check the sha256sum after downloading the image and does this happen also with other Distro images?

Yes and hash are equivalent, there's a powrshell command in windows to see

and does this happen also with other Distro images?

If i remember well...no :) Maybe i made sowmething wrong during the creation of usb stick? Really don't know have a ubuntu server as a windos sub-system maybe i can try yo use dd to create the media tool with iso? I never used dd, did you?
I was thinking all, really strange. But i cannot boot also in my work laptop cause with secure boot i think grub have some problem.

Boh! :)

Hi,

You most likely have 'Secure Boot' enabled in your BIOS or UEFI firmware settings. AV Linux uses unsigned Kernels (100% safe, secure boot is about OS politics not really a security need) so unless you disable secure boot AVL won't work.

Hi to all,

i did some research. My actual mode is in leagacy mode and UEFI is not supported.
I lost 2 hours to find it there were some settings!
And naturally i can't see the secure boot options in amibios v.2.61.

But, i asking, if not secure boot is supported by bios why i can't start linux?
I read somewhere that maybe i'll have to reformat my hdd and convert it to GPT from MBR? But now i can't.

I don't have knowlodge about ARTIX...which this distro is usefull for?

Thanks

I have to update my post!
So i booted finally ubuntu studio 22.04. I thinked about a xorg problem cause i thinked issues with graphic card.
I made what suggested here: https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1847846
After booting ubuntu, enterding edit mode typing "e" and add "nomodeset" the live usb works.
Is very too slow but it worked.
Maybe i can resolve the same problem with avlinux? Almost on usb boot?
