Power Over People

Post by jdfight »

I recently finished this track after a very long period of creative block and video game addiction. I had to make a promise to myself to not play games until I have at least spent 20 minutes on some sort of musical pursuit daily - working on new tracks, learning something new, practicing guitar, etc... So far this has been working for me and I was able to actually complete a track entirely in Zrythm. I like how this one turned out and I hope to do more like it.

Not sure if this counts as synthwave or not...I always have a difficult time assigning genres to my music.

Wonderful track! Is that a guitar or did you somehow make that with a synthesizer?

Yeah, games can be utter time-sinks. Just played Fallout 4 for 85 hours the past 7 weeks, and I didn't even like it all that much..

That is a real guitar - I ran a small clone chorus pedal and my orange crush amp directly into my sound card. In Zrythm, I ran it through LSP impulse response with a celestion g12h IR.

I love the sound. I don't know what it is about vocoders that is so attractive. Also the rest of the arrangement is really nice. The mix/master sounds a little oldschool, but it fits the song. Still, it would also make a lovely modern mix as well.
Thanks for sharing!

Some people might consider me to be old... I guess it makes sense that I would have made an old-school mix!

I like it! I guess to qualify as synthwave, the drums would have to be a bit more "produced" or synthetic, but as they are they gel well with the guitar.

I agree with @jeanette_c that the production is a tad old-school, but I also find that this suits this track perfectly.

That vocoder is really nice. As are a lot of the sounds.

How do you find Zrythm in general? Is it stable enough now?

I thought I was the only one suffering from that! One of the reasons why I've done so little, recently (besides laziness and lack of motivation) is indeed games: just recently, Assasin's Creed Odyssey hooked me for WAY longer than it was supposed to, a bit like Witcher 3 did some time ago. When that happens, I get very little done creatively...
