Tom and I just finished another recording. It is an electronic love song based on trigonometry, for all of you romantic mathematicians out there. It tells the true story of how I met my wife in a university trigonometry class.

Recorded using Ardour 7. Most of the synth tracks are from Tom's Roland FA-06, but I also made a little sound effect using my Yamaha Reface CS. There is also a melody based on the first 35 digits of Pi that I rendered with amsynth. The vocoders also use amsynth.
One of my favorite things about this recording (aside from the super cheesy lyrics) is the loop vocal choir. It was inspired by the old analog studio technique developed by 10CC for "I'm Not in Love" and also used by Billy Joel in "Just the Way You Are." It was an interesting challenge to do. I recorded 2 full octaves of singing "Ahhhh" and looped them out to 4 minutes each. Then I controlled the volume of each note with fader automation. The result is half organic, half mechanical, and I think it fits the music really well.
Hopefully this song will help you celebrate the 28 days between Valentine's Day and Pi Day. Enjoy!
