Hello, my name is Don Cross. I just joined this forum, and I'm excited to be here.
I am a long time software developer and I was educated in electrical engineering. I have been interested in digital audio since the 1990s. I am very new to the world of electronic music, however. Exactly one year ago I stumbled across VCV Rack and became fascinated with it. By June 2022 I was developing my own plugin for VCV Rack. Recently I released Sapphire Elastika and it has received positive attention. I'm actively working on my next module.
I'm having a lot of fun in the computer music world. I'm interested in learning more about DAWs, developing VST and CLAP plugins, and maybe even learning to get JACK configured correctly on my Debian Bullseye system
!
I'm eager to read, learn, and participate in this community.

Welcome! It is fun to see a new user here with such a "back-of-the-tapestry" perspective already in place.

Hi, and welcome. All hands on deck!
The debian based AVLinux distro comes with a fully working jackd/pulse audio setup, so you could use that, or use it as a reference
when studying your own system. I will recommend installing two versions of AVLinux, one defaults an with xfce desktop, and the other
with Enlightenment. Both are ready as turn-key recording setups, and can be installed on external drives if desired.
Out of the box, wine, wineasio, and a Reaper daw demo are ready for action. As well as well as the yabridge plugin wrapper.
Having two or more installations precludes any down-time from a flawed upgrade, or in my case mostly self-inflicted damages.
Cheers

You might be interested in the JACK/LV2 CV system.

In a few weeks I will be buying a dedicated system for audio work. I have been looking at AVLinux, especially because it is Debian-based. I have been using Debian Linux for many years now, so the learning curve would be very gentle.
However, one of the things I don't like about Debian is that often the packages are too old. There are many times where I end up building stuff from source to get a recent version. I am considering using something like Arch Linux instead. I know this will be a lot more work and hassle, but I'm a patient/stubborn person and I don't mind getting my hands dirty.
I could end up regretting it and starting over with AVLinux. Who knows. I still haven't made up my mind, and I'm definitely open to other people's experience about this.

Yes, I am definitely interested in learning about the various plugin formats. I'm looking at VST, CLAP, LV2, and others... there is so much to learn! I feel like I'm drinking from a fire hose!
Soon a friend will help me port my Elastika plugin to VST.

Glad to see you here! Elastika are amazing, easily one of the best modules in Rack.
