This is getting funny.

Just wanted to log in, to see if I got an email from the music store.

My providers seems to have picked today to have a problem with email.

It says they are working hard, to fix it.

Why today of all days ?

About that USB cable, UNFA used an USB extension cord, and it worked fine.

For testing that cable is long enough. The focus will be on a table, my pc is below that table.
Don't think I need an extension cord.

A longer cable will work but it will in theory have some issues. I'll leave i to you to look into it though.

Bring in the dancing girls. 8)

Focus and ADAM TV5 connected to my pc.

Its plug and play , except for the adam TV5, I had to move a switch on those to have sound.

What can I say, OMG. 8)

The contrast in the music, OMG.

Now I will have to sort out, if I am on 45 or 96 mhz ?
Do I need to hold that button 5 sec like unfa did ?

I also did not yet added that config file, but its working already.
OpenSUSE does see an usb audio device and a mass storage device.

For test listened to a cd, and again omg the contrast.
Listened to my house track, and it has way to much bass. The adam TV5 did not like it, bass is distorted.
To a point I was wondering if I was wrecking the adam tv5.

According to Bax music, I can't use the microphone of my headset. The headphone part works fine on the scarlett focus solo.
Bought an 3.5 to 6.3 adapter.

I am not 100% yet convinced my mike wont work, but I might bother Focusrite with that question. In theory a second 3.5 to 6.3 can fix it.

What are you referring to? I certainly hope you are not on anything mhz  I guess you mean khz and the sample rate? In my opinion 96khz is excessive and not needed unless you're using other very expensive recording chains and quality instruments, even then it may not make that much difference. 44.1 or 48 should be fine but you don't need to choose one or the other, your card and monitors should work with whatever you feed it.

It because of that unfa vid, with the scarrlett. To unlock the device. He holds the 48v button for 5 sec.

I do not know if its relevant to my use case, because I wont be recording live played music.

This isn't exactly the model I'm currently using but you can find XLR to TRS adapters like this one to use your headset microphone. Don't forget to activate phantom power and you're good to go.

edit: found it! It was a lot cheaper when I bought it.

Thank you and this is exactly why I get confused too.

My focusrite 2i2 solo, has two inputs for 6.3 jacks, and one xlr connection.
The two 6.3 jack inputs have a microphone logo and a headphone logo.
The 2i2 not solo has two xlr connections.

From what I found online, I can't with my solo record stereo. With the 2i2 not solo you can record stereo.

So if want stereo, I need to record twice, then put both tracks in LMMS. :P

For my use case, mixing my LMMS tracks, this is not even a bit relevant though.

The Adam TV5 are really awesome for mixing.

For just listening to music(mp3) I cant say the adam TV5 are better then my Sennheiser gaming headset.

Some mp3 sound nicer on the headset. Can't say better, its hard to put in words.

Contrast wise, the Adam TV5 are much better then the Sennheiser gaming headset.

This might explain the mp3 part. The Sennheiser is probably better at masking the weak spots in mp3.
The Adam tv5 does not mask. ( shit in, shit out :P )

The stereo experience on the adam TV5 is also much better then, the stereo experience on the headset.

The difference in sound quality between the focus and the chip on my mother board is not that big.
I think the focus is slightly better though. (while listening on the sennheiser headset)
One advantage of focus set up is the volume. I can go much louder.

This reminds me a of an online statement I once read.
If your looking for speakers that make your music sound nice, don't get studio monitors.

This makes them perfect for mixing though.

Even at very low volume the adam tv5 still present all details of the music.

To sum it up, I am beyond happy with the adam TV5 and the solo. :D

https://support.focusrite.com/hc/en-gb/ ... d-unusual-

Interesting, my Sennheiser does not have the top plug.

It has two separate plugs, with two rings. So according to that page, my gamingheadset should work.

My Sennheiser has a 2 TRS connections.....

Some progress.

Asked advise on a dutch forum.

Short answer, don't do it.

I also got a link to this:

https://www.monacor.com/products/pa-tec ... es/ema-20/

The most simple solution would probably be to buy a mic.

The one from the link would still need an 3.5 to 6.3 adapter.

For those who want to see, the dutch forum reply:
https://gathering.tweakers.net/forum/li ... 6#74044256

Not using the focusrite solo for gaming would be another solution.

I am still in shock and awe about the adam TV5.

Jean Michel Jarre does not sound the same anymore.

The weirdest part for me is the stereo. It reminds me of feedback I have gotten on this forum, about how to mix.

stereo spread:
Jean Michel Jarre - Magnetic field. For the first time in my life, I am hearing a drum sound in the middle, and the other sound much more to the left and right.

Its like the middle sound is coming from the monitor, or should I say from a spot were there is no speaker.

Thinking about a new desk. Planning on a new desk for some time already.
Do I get 2 stands or just make something from wood to place the speakers on. They are now on wedge shaped foam pads.

Studio monitors need to be at ear height. They are a bit below that now.
If I bend over (pun intended) I can notice this.

More microphone stuff.

I did something funny, I downloaded the manual of the focusrite 2i2 solo. :P

What I learned from this.

The 48Volt button is only about the XLR connection.

Never will the 48 volt be send to an 1/4" input.

Then it talks about 3 types of microphones, but if I get the manual right, this is again about the XLR connection.

About holding the 48v button, like UNFA says in his vid.

Out of the box as I am using the Focus now, its set to an easy setup mode.
(they want you register)
This limits the sample rate to 48 khz, (after holding that 48v button for 5 seconds while connecting the usb cable to your pc, it can go up to 192 kHz)
Unlocking it without registration.

So it should be safe to connect my sennheiser mic, to the 1/4" input. Will it work ? it will at least not blow the headset mic up. 8)

So now I need a second 3.5 to 6.3 (1/4") adapter, and test the mic of the headset with audacity.

If you have an ikea near you then you can easily make something like this very cheaply.

I would also recommend getting some acoustic foam pads to put underneath the Adams, like this https://www.thomann.de/gb/auralex_acoustics_mopad.htm

You must've cleaned up before taking that picture: I've never seen such an ordered uncluttered desk before..outside of showrooms ;)
