In the night

Hey hey, here's my Sunday contribution, quite winterly in a way:
https://youtu.be/kEQMzARj8ks
And the OGG version for those who really don't want to to to Youtube:

(Lyrics below)
The whole song is centred around the piano. I would like to make another speciial mention of Csound for the ticking clock. Beyond LinuxSampler for piano, bass, one guitar, xylophone and the VPO strings, which are great fun to use, there is DrumGizmo with the Aasimonster kit, again in a different mix/sound, and Yoshimi for subtle details. The Behringer Neutron adds a little soft sub bass and the octave "tremolo" sound. Furthermore Csound added two more guitar layers.
There is something almost musical'esque in the song, it may be the strings or it may be the long narrative. :) There is a happy end.
I hope it adds something to your day! Best wishes, Jeanette

I'd rather be your voice, when you wake up in the night.
I'd sooth you with a smile and strive to be your light.
I'd burn alive and fall apart elsewhere.
You'd never see me break and tear my heart.

I'd rather hear you speak of things with no import
Than live a life devoid of you
And bear the pain of that finality
And walk that road of misery.
I'd rather brave the bleak, sad lands of autumn hue.

Your kind and tender heart, your quick and ready smile.
Were just two traits of you I fell
In love with, yet uncertain all the while
I did not dare to tell
That I love you.
Thus, unware you shared

The treasures of your heart.

Talk with me of books and roses,
Laugh with me 'bout silly jokes.
Don't be scared when I confess that I've fallen for you.

And now you are my voice, in the middle of the night.
All Lies In Shades Of Nacreous blue.
We made a world of wonders unforeseen,
A sea which sparkles with a magic sheen.
Now you gave me the choice, I wander at your site.

That bass sounds gorgeous with the piano and xylophone. The guitar sound though I think's a bit too grainy.

Thanks for the music!

Damn, this is really dramatic, and definitely musical-sounding, 70s musical. Love the instrumental ending, sort of Elton John-ish.

Thanks a lot for this!

Thank you @oscillator and @Impostor !
@Impostor: I see where you're coming from with the guitar. I have to really put in more work here. Too many suboptimal conditions coming together, starting by not having a guitar and not being able to play one, finding the right sound with a less than rich choice, due to some technical limitations. I will make a point of creating a test project just to experiment with guitar sound and a good effects chain.
Thanks for listening and taking the time to comment. This is very much appreciated!
Best wishes, Jeanette

Love that part past 5:10 or so. And the key change halfway within that is great as well. Nice choice of chords at around 3:00 or so. I'm trying to learn to make more interesting chord choices like that as well. Great stuff!

Hi @Tenaba , thanks for your kind words. I love key changes. I don't use them as often as I should. With vocals that would mean singiing another chorus or pitching vocals. :)
The chords in the middle. Hm, there's a bit of jazz perhaps, otherwise I started with the melody. I mostly have a sound in my head and try to work it out. Some intuition at work, having done or tried it often enough. I think that is still part of my prog influence. Some Flower Kings perhaps, some Yes...
Key changes I have learnt a few from baroque composisitions. Others from metal. Your arsenal is different, but I wouldn't say less impressive and effective.

The first piano chord reminded me of "Hello" by Lionel Richie but it's actually a very different song. Liked the harmony very much, it fits very well the melody. I liked your synth work a lot. This track would have not sounded out of place on an Alan Parsons Project or Rick Wakeman album, IMHO, and that's a huge compliment from me! But these comparisons must not overshadow your unique talent, which is no lesser than some famous musicians'.

Hey hey @Basslint , many, many thanks. I feel honoured in deed by these comparisons. I like "Hello" a lot and have enjoyed Wakeman/Yes as well as Alan Parsons on occasion.
I didn't realise the reminiscence of Richie's Hello, I was thinking of Herbert Groenemeyer's "Lied 3" (song 3), which is darker by has a similar opening chord, once the piano comes in. Listening to that you will definitely recognise the dramaturgy of the introductory section. :)
