Tenaba - Drawn to the Open Sea (Piano Demo)

Post by Tenaba »

I've written some more piano stuff. I was originally practicing this piano part for a song I want to record, but I realized I'll have to make some changes to get it to fit in with other instruments. So instead, I kind of expanded on the idea and turned it into a separate demo. I'm hoping to get to a point where it doesn't take me forever to re-learn things on piano compared to bass or guitar.

It is on Youtube here: https://youtu.be/Slwyxq-d75M

I'm using Pianoteq, with the K2 model to play this.

I think this track can easily accomodate a bassline...try the bass part from the Steinway Bass and Piano Split preset.

Edit: I see the K2 has such a split preset too.

Thank you for the suggestion. I've started recording bass guitar, as I didn't have to change the piano as much as I thought. The Pianoteq split bass presets also sound quite nice.

wow, this is very beautiful melody and composition, but I don't understand if you are considering it a complete piece or not.
I see very well it as a composition to be arranged. Do you have some lyrics?
With this starting point it should be easy to add other instruments and details on it.
Anyway I really like it! :)

I definitely see this track as one that can be enriched with some orchestral layers in the background, a bit like Yanni's piano works. I remain impressed by how quickly you're improving your piano skills: your left hand uses 4 out of 5 fingers constantly for rhythm, where I'd struggle to go beyond 3

I don't consider this a complete piece, as it's just the piano part of a song that I'm working on. Though I did make a few changes for the demo to make it more entertaining, I have lyrics, as the song will have vocals on it. Glad that you like it.

This track will definitely sound quite different once it has all the instruments and vocals in it. :D You've mentioned Yanni a few times, so I looked up some of this live performances and they're very nice. I'll have to listen to more of his music..

Well I for one would like to consider it a complete piece. Sometimes it is better to be sparse. We can feel the chord progressions and the melody. What more is there to say? :)

Really beautiful and nicely played!

Hi @Tenaba , this is a beautiful little piece. You've worked out the performance very well. There are some lovely harmonies in this song. I especially like the surprising shift to the major chord around 30 seconds, once repeated later on. It's a sweet piece, played with the tenderness it deserves.

Glad you appreciate it the chord choice! I've been studying the chord progressions of some of the songs that I like. I've found there's a lot of examples of mode mixture, key changes, and mode changes to learn about.
