Love incorporated

Post by jeanette_c »

Hey hey, this is my latest song:
https://youtu.be/xG-MMB3_1NY
OGG version here:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/n0v21iduuhgjo ... orated.ogg
Lyrics at the end of this message.
It was a fun production and one that took quite a while to finish, both due to instruments to design, mixing and singing.
This song uses a lot of Csound, where ever the drums hit hardest, the bass really wobbles or the distorted guitar have a nice bite, you will find Csound, as well as for the risers/screamers.
The next biggest star in this production is Yoshimi with one of the basses, which came as a surprise when I ried a few things in point of sound design, the pads, the supersaw pluck and the plinky/bell like timbre.
Add more LinuxSampler and a bit of hardware, plus loads of plugins and you have a song. :) There are easier ways to do it, but it really was a great joy to write, record and finally mix.
As a genre it bridges a few typical genre elements, but I think it's still consistent and compact. A bit of dubstep, rock, EDM and perhaps even a 90s throwback.
Best wishes and enjoy, Jeanette
*** Lyrics ***

Snap decision on the edge of perfection:
Line by line, keep goin'.
Burning eyes in the silver reflexion.
Red and white: it's showin'.
It's where pain and joy
Are like one golden coin.
Such a sharp, racy toy

To employ.

Someone here - someone there
Take a mere - little care...
But the world is unfair,

Risk a dream if you dare...

Love incorporated:
Heartbreak guaranted.
Our plots come with serrated
Edges Cut to bleed.
Get on the ride!
It'll tan your hide.

Strike a spark with a positive whiplash:
Flame by flame, you're set alight.
Feed your passion with a merciless love stash!
Eyes and skin so bright.
Slap a stamp on your skin,
Ink the message in.
Bind your heart in a tie

Send it in!

Is it heat? - Is it love?
Feel the need - like a shove.
Crave the hands, when they're rough.

Take your joy, when it's tough.

Love incorporated:
A crash is guaranteed.
Our plots come with serrated
Edges cut to bleed.
Get on the ride!
It'll tan your hide.

Nice!
I like the singing best at the times the voice is doubled though. Adds a bit more body to the vocal..

Great track @jeanette_c with a wonderful production! Lots of lower end still never muddy. I am impressed with the sound design too -- and I love the snare sound(s).

Maybe some more reverb on the voice?

Wow @jeanette_c, once again I am amazed at your production and sound engineering skills. They are more than professional, they are musical.

I appreciated that you tried singing a rap-like part, your singing is improving and it's probably because you are trying different things.

I admire your courage to avoid staying in a comfort zone. You know, you were a solid music-maker from the day you shared your first track but you are also one of the people who improved the most :D

Hey hey, thanks again to all your comments so far.
@Impostor: I know that heavily doubled singing works best for me. My voice is not strong and doubling helps to even out pitch insecurities. :) All singing is doubled, but in the verses very quietly, only to give a bit more depth and room.
@oscillator: two of the snares, the one that comes in in the prechorus and the one in the chorus I modelled on a youtube tutorial on dubstep snares, specifically recreating the Skrillex sound. I'm also aware that my usage of reverb is rather tentative. I suppose with readily available sidechain compression in my environment I would try more. Otherwise I must learn to better take care of overlapping mud. :)
@Basslint: I try to go with different things. Sometimes I go overboard too. I have been told that this song could easily have been split up into two or three songs. :) My origiinal idea saw a rock song, but I wanted to go for something different and more modern. Well, that partly worked. :)
@kamiluni: thanks for the kind words. When it's pleasant listening, I feel I made a few right choices.
This song did see some improvements and changes in my typical mastering approach, since the original master sounded very off. So I got some advice about better gain staging and use of compressors. Having compared the before and after, I can only say that it was very good advice indeed. :)
