It's saturday night

Post by Impostor »

So for tomorrow's chillout sessions, I'll suggest my recently-mastered-for-loudness collection

https://devloop0.bandcamp.com/album/moody-melodies

which has been on bandcamp for a while, but now sounds better than ever :)
All tunes save one were made in 2021/2022. One is from 2000, made on Windows, and still sounds like crap*. I had to include it though since it fits perfectly with the rest.

*That's because when I was even younger than I am today, when I thought a track was finished, I made a 160 kbps mp3 (why not 320? Misguided ideas of saving space maybe) of it and deleted all source material, just to be done with it I think.
Alas, back then I couldn't help it to revise it somewhat regardless (I never outgrew this habit apparently). So I just opened the mp3 in Cooledit, cut out some stuff, did a fade-out to hide it, and recompressed it to a 160 kbps mp3**. Now I kick myself in the head for those insane practices I had back then.
Anyway, it's the best track I made in those years. If only I still had the source, then I could change the first 90 seconds a bit.

**Which means that when you stream it from bandcamp, it'll be compressed for a third time!

Who knows, in a few years time a new plugin will be all the rage: Calf Vintage MP3 Compression.

Those are some really good soundscapes! Premonition is my fav.

It is interesting how you still manage to keep a sound signature despite using different tools for the songs.

I like the clear mixing a lot too.

MusE DAW running on Debian 11 Testing/XFCE4.

Thank you both for listening. Glad you liked it!

@oscillator: It's good to know the mix sounds good. Even though I currently just ignore the existence of speakers when mixing, some of the tunes on Moody Melodies were mainly mixed on them, while others were mainly done on headphones.

These tracks make a nice background when mentally free-wheeling.

Hi @Impostor , thanks for sharing this little album. It's quite eclectic in a way. Yes, all songs fit, and hadn't you mentioned - and tagged - that one of the songs is from 2000, I wouldn't have spotted it. Still, the variation in atmosphere, soundscapes, harmonic universe is engaging. Nice work!

It's the one song I made with a midi sequencer all those years ago. Then my new (and rather expensive) Terratec soundcard broke (which took the role of both sampler and DSP processor) and I went back to trackers and such, instead of buying a new one. Given that this track is by far the best one I made back then, I should've just bought a new one I guess..
