Suddenly

Post by jeanette_c »

Hey hey, my latest song, called Suddenly:
https://youtu.be/e6jDCkw0vIk
OGG version for direct download:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/t02b13d6jiyto6o/suddenly.ogg
It's a bit of a trip, one might call it prog. It covers some open jazz, a slightly more psychedelic part and the gentle baroque section. :)
This was mainly an exercise in LinuxSampler and setBfree.
Here are the lyrics, in case someone's interested:

Safe and inclement,
Where the rain laden days are incessant.
Time has no significance.
And the seasons pass me by...

No pain, no luck to breach the sky.

Suddenly, it's spring.
Her name makes my heart sing.
She can't be here too soon.
Her kiss will make me swoon.

I watched as the days went by
Yet there was nothing to see.
The leaves of the calender turned,
But they held no meaning for me.
Tender smiles vanished into the void,
And gentle hands dropped away.
The day I almost missed my chance,

When I barely caught her final glance.

And suddenly it's spring.
Her name makes my heart sing.
She wasn't here too soon.
How her kisses make me swoon.

Safe and inclement
I will no longer be,

Since there is life and love to see.

'Cause suddenly it's spring.
Your name makes my heart sing.
You weren't here too soon.
Your presence makes me swoon.

Hi, quite a few posters here put their music exclusively on youtube. I'd really like to listen to it, but then I'd need to renounce my principles and allow google scripts on my pc. Not wanting to appear presumptuous, but is there any chance I can listen to it elsewhere? I did listen to some stuff on your website (good stuff!) but your new music isn't there (yet)...

You could use an invidious instance like this https://yewtu.be/channel/UCMS4rfGrTwz8W7jhC1Jnv7g

If that is acceptable to you, then you can also add a browser addon called "privacy redirect" (firefox addon) which will automatically redirect youtube links to an invidious instance version.

Thanks, that works. But I still have to allow a script from googlevideo.com..(that seems to be just for media playback though)

Hi @Imposter , you're not the first one to have issues with Youtube for some reason. I usually post an OGG version to the Linux audio mailinglist, but I can also post it here:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/t02b13d6jiyto6o/suddenly.ogg
This should be script free. At least I can download it on the commandline, from a browser link or using wget.
there's no need to apologise, there are some links I can't access and then have to skip listening myself. :)

You don't have to allow a script, just a connection to the video itself.

As usual, good work, but personally I'm not keen on the sudden quite dramatic changes in style. That's just me - I like things to be more predicable

Hi @folderol , as usual I thank you for taking the time to comment and finding the good in it, especially because it's not your style of music. I always appreciate your feedback. Yoshimi played a small part in this piece, but to my ears a vital one that always gives me goosebumps.

Your creativity retains the freshness and taste of romanticism, the desire to search for new melodic moves and sound palettes  Not covered over the years with the rust of cynicism, Nietzscheanism and other corpse poison

Your singing gives me some 70s prog vibes, in a good vibe. How your singing has improved!!!

Also the song is, as always, very good. I have no problems with the changes, your music is always very interesting to listen too.

Soundwise it is really good sounding, and the mixing is great! I like the organ and the ending is a bit surprising, in a good way.

Hi @oscillator , thanks for your kind words. Yes, the ending is abrupt. Sometimes I feel a little unsure about my endings, but this one was very much intentional, for a change. :)
Thanks for the comments on my singing, I have taken to using autotalent a lot lately, even if carefully applied. :)

I agree that your singing has improved. This is definitely prog rock, or progressive pop a la ELO or Alan Parsons Project! :D

Long live prog rock, and I definitely hear the same influences, including some from Brad Love, lead singer and main composer of Aviary. While it's likely you've never hard anything from him or the band (they're criminally underrated and not that known), I do see some echoes of their work in your songs quite often (probably because the genre is close enough). While I enjoyed the changes, my favourite part is the very quiet first and somber minute.

Hi Jeanette, this is (again) a very good song: nicely structured and all parts working together in harmony. Your singing talent has improved a lot and sounds more confident. Keep going!
