Looking for critique

Post by tywjohn »

Looking for critique in all areas. Mixing, mastering and arrangement are my biggest target points.

Made in Bitwig with mostly stock plugins apart from Valhalla Supermassive, Tracktion's Biotek 2, TAL Noisemaker and the LSP plugin suite for mastering.

I think the kick is a little overbearing and out of place. You have the nice dreamy synth lines and thud thud house party kick drum.

the overall mood is very nice! :)

I like the chord progression you used. and the initial choice of sounds.
For me, if i can tell, you could improve these aspects:

  1. a different kick sound: i would see a more deep one with some rumble in the queue
  2. I found a little distorted sound like a saturated one in the middle, I don't understand if it is intentional or not. If yes, more separation is required to avoid misunderstanding
  3. in the middle/end of the piece in my opinion there are too many overlapped and confused arpeggios

Obviously this is my point of view!!!
Thanks to share :D

I too found the kick rather overbearing. In that middle section where you dropped it the piece sounded much smoother. Otherwise quite enjoyable

The kick sounds fine to me. There's -something- jarring in the percussion though. Overly compressed maybe? (I'm just guessing here). Nice melody and rhythm.

Hi @tywjohn , I would have liked to listen to your song, but couldn't get to it. My system is a little simple and doesn't understand that particular soundcloud link (yet). It's good to see that you got so many responses with considerate feedback. I'm looking forward to hear it, once I got this little challenge solved. :)
