Take 3: Shades Of Memory

Post by Impostor »

Soundscape number three. With a bit of acid here and there. A trip down memory lane :)

https://devloop0.bandcamp.com/track/shades-of-memory

Featuring:

Black Pearl Multi Out on drums
Rebirth RB338 and Calf Monosynth on acid
Pianoteq on bass
TripleCheese on flute
String Machine doing its thing
And the 'dirty stab' sound is actually a GM guitar sound run through Calf Bitcrusher (I think) and an EQ :) I scavenged this part from a discarded track I made earlier this year. Just sampled it and used it here.
And guest appearance on percussion: some soundfont or other.

Update 1000: So, yesterday I claimed I was finished with it after 24h of no more revising. Turns out I was wrong. I shaved off a useless 32 seconds, which after hearing the song >300 times started to get a bit boring.

Those drums are really nice! As are the synth sounds, esp that acid sound (that I usually don't like). :)

It could be a bit more harmonically and structurally challenging, some kind of break in the middle perhaps?

MusE DAW running on Debian 11 Testing/XFCE4.

Thanks! I was quite impressed with the drumbeat myself :) It originated in me following your tutorial on multi channel plugins. I thought, why not create something nice to listen to while working things out?

You're absolutely right. That's something I have to put some more effort in. It already took me quite an effort to create the change in drumbeat, around the time Rebirth starts buzzing in your left ear, to create some diversity...I often feel a bit stuck in a rut when I have something that sounds good in a loop.
