NATO doesn't even have enough arms in EU to protect themselves. You can google how many tanks/warplanes/etc they have in EU comparing to Russia.
Ukraine is protecting itself with a small percentage of NATO armaments. A lot of Russian's armed forces are using obsolete equipment. Most of their plane models were designed and introduced in the cold war. They have at least one coal powered aircraft carrier. It's of little real threat to NATO, which is why it's government is so passionate about countries they covet becoming a part of it.

I think that without massive (and exclusively) US help it is almost impossible to defend even against outdated equipment simply because of its quantity - Russian forces are shelling civilian infrastructure, leaving a lot of people without electricity, water and heating - this does not require advanced weapons. The problem is that Russia cannot win and Putler is not going to step back, this is why he often mentions the nukes. Nobody knows what he's going to do when he runs out of missiles.

It was never like what is happening now, and anyway it is their country. Without Russian intervention in 2014 this would not even have begun. Prigozhin no longer hesitates to say that his people were there from the very beginning. And during these "8 years" Russia was against the participation of UN peacekeepers, not Ukraine.
