Black Sheep Riot, "I Wanna Kill Your Father" (Punk) (Lyric video)

A "cartoonish violence" punk track. It is a few years old, but I though it wasn't out of place among the stuff I am releasing now. It was nice to revisit it with my new Kdenlive "superpowers"...
Song: Ardour, Audacity, Drumgizmo.
Video: Kdenlive, Gimp, MtPaint.
Funny what happened with the flanger in this song; I broke my head trying to make it "thicken" with the other tracks, but everything sounded muddy and weird. By pure chance, one day I listened to a Morbid Angel song that had a flanger, and their solution was so simple: they panned it 100% to one side, no need for "symmetry". I figured that if it was good enough for Morbid Angel, it was good for me...
In this video I made a discovery about inserting the lyrics; until now I played the song and pressed the Ins key "more or less a bit before" each phrase, to mark where the letters go. With this one I noticed that a good standard is using the final beat from the previous bar, e.g, if you're playing 4/4 : "1, 2, 3, and... 1, 2, 3, and...", you press the key with that "and". This makes the insertion of marks a bit like a "live performance", you have to stay on your toes... Unfortunately in this video there are places where that rule is broken, because for some reason Kdenlive's rendering desynchronized the subtitles, so I had to fine tune things by hand...

Nice :)
Thanks for putting the video somewhere besides Youtube. Now I can enjoy it too!
Off-topic: You mentioning Morbid Angel brings back memories, to when I was 15 years old and on a whim took the train to Dynamo Open Air Festival in Eindhoven where they played (I think the admission fee was something like 5 guilders, probably equivalent to 5 euros now. And that for a line-up with Morbid Angel, Primus, Metal Church, Obituary, Extreme). Altars of Madness was all the rage amongst us headbangers then. Jesus I'm old...

Glad you enjoyed the song... Catching that show you mention would have been a real treat for me (and at those prices!), I think it caught me ~5-6 years too young. That's also a testimony, I think, of how eclectic those times were... Primus perhaps still might work, but Extreme in the same bill with Obituary and Morbid Angel? I don't know if that would fly nowadays (I wish it would, I love all those bands in their own way, and also variety is the spice of life...
).
It caught me a couple of decades late, but "Altars of Madness" is MA's album I love best; really dissonant and crazy stuff, one of those albums that takes a lot of listenings to get into, which I like...

To an extent maybe. I remember metalheads being ultraconservative regarding music. In the early nineties I was happily going from a metal concert one month, to a rave the next month. But fellow metalheads were really disdainful of my eclectic musical tastes:)
And the negative reactions when a metalband did something experimental! Like Kreator with their album Renewal: it is actually the only Kreator album I still like (a lot!) but this album was reviled by their 'hardcore fans'. Or My Dying Bride's 34.788% Complete: I love the track "Heroin Chic", but again, it was despised by their 'true fans'.

Yeah, you're quite right, metalheads can be very closed sometimes... Sometimes they have this kind of "nationalistic" thing with the genre that, in my view, misses the whole point. Me and my friends always listened to punk + metal in quite an "interchangeable" way, without distinction... The way I see it, both genres are grandsons of the blues, a genre born to say "this sucks", and they say it in different ways, plus also in the end this is all very simple, popular music, not rocket science, so there are important points of contact and grey areas; e.g. Sodom is metal, sure, but they have a lot of songs "straightforward like a tank from A to B" that sound like punk to me (OK, very well played punk...) And a lot of punk or hardcore bands use cadences typical of metal (e.g. Agnostic Front; and NOFX's first albums have such accumulation of riffs that always made me think a bit of Megadeth, and they are quite technical too...)
I also had my techno/dance/drum & bass etc stage, great musicians in that field that I respect, although I never felt the "call" to add those genres in what I do...
