AMD Ryzen 7000 series (Zen4, AM5) and Linux compatebility

Hi!
I've been waiting for AMD to release their new Zen 4 architecture for 3 years now, since I didn't feel like buiing into the "old" Zen 3 when I knew something better was coming. Well, finally it's here and should be available in the shops very soon!
But, before jumping on this train, I have some worries that the Linux "eco-system" (kernel/drivers for new CPU, Motherboard, etc etc) is not ready yet.
Anyone know if Linux is ready for this?

Wow, impressive (and probably just as expensive). They do draw a lot of power though, compared to the 65W of my 5600X, which under heavy load easily heats up to near 80 degrees Celcius already (with stock cooler)!
About Linux being ready: I only recently upgraded to zen3 5600X, and I needed a hwe kernel with Linux Mint 20, instead of the stock 5.4 one. (The system did run, but got various boot warnings, which disappeared when I installed kernel 5.11).
You'll most likely need the newest experimental kernel for a zen4 pc (and a lot of dough).
Found this, which may or may not be of relevance:
https://www.phoronix.com/review/amd-ryz ... zen4-linux
"As for the Linux support, it wasn't touched on during the event itself. But with my close monitoring of things and communications, I expect it to be largely in good shape. After all, AMD wouldn't have sent me down here if not good Linux support and being concerned about the AMD Linux presence (I also wouldn't have bothered with the loss of productivity/downtime to travel if not sure of Zen 4 being primed for Linux). As I've been covering over the past great number of months, AMD has been quietly getting their Zen 4 support into place with the Linux kernel."
Edit: that article is from 29-8-22

Thanks for the info! Yes, I might have to build my own kernel this time

..I will try to hold on a couple of months before I buy into this, then maybe there are enough experiences out there to draw upon.
Exciting times in the CPU business!

As to Zen 3, I've built my wife a PC with the Ryzen 7 5700G earlier this year, and it runs perfectly. Her OS of choice is Ubuntu 22.04 LTS, and until that was finished we ran 21.10 on it. which was almost as good (I think Bluetooth was still having a few problems with older kernels).
Note that both the Zen3 and also the Zen4 processors are marked as Linux compatible on AMD's pages, the newer Ryzen 7 7700X which is more or less the successor to my wife's 5700G has that as well - see
https://www.amd.com/de/products/cpu/amd-ryzen-7-7700x for instance which states:
RHEL x86 64-Bit
Ubuntu x86 64-Bit
I'd have no problem in trying these, but for quite a while Zen3 will still be considerably cheaper I guess.
My 2 (Euro-) Cents...
Hope that helps,
Wolfgang

I'm fixing to do a mobo cpu ram ssd swap .... I have an I7 920 windows10 and Ubuntu , anyhow I'm eye balling the amd Ryzen 5600g thinking about going all in on Linux and using yabridge and the latest Ubuntu LTS ... I'd really like to see what the 7600g will look like but I think it may be awhile till release . And I'd really come out cheaper with the old stuff .

AMD have a very good track record with Linux compatibility... unlike some other vendors
