what is actually the best distribution to get JACK running?

At least in Ubuntu I have used, no problems. Now jumped from Ubuntu to Devuan, but for other reasons.

I can't get JACK to work ... Xubuntu 22.04.1 with Studio Audio :(
(same with the complete Studio or AV Linux)

I've used qjackctl, never launched jack directly.

Same here. On both debian and devuan (my preference these days).

I'm running Ubuntu-based Mint. Jack works fine here (as the others above, I also always start it with qjackctl).

In my case, Mint 20, I use the XFCE version, but I've been on mint since 16 and never had any issues with Jack with PreSonus USB96, Behringer UMC404HD v1, MAudio Quattro. As with others, I use qjackctl to manage jack, and I use Raysession as a session manager.

I installed Ubuntu Studio for a friend one time, and nothing worked! I installed Mint 19 and KXStudio on the same machine and jack ran perfectly without even changing any settings.

AVLinux, the enlightenment version (SteVo). Jack works fine, and I can start it from CLI or Qjackctl, no problem.

If I'm not mistaken then the latest Ubuntu's use the all new PipeWire (PW) for audio, not Jack in combination with PulseAudio (PA). PW can "act" like you've got Jack on your system for audio apps that don't support PW yet, I think.

Long story short: try to learn PW instead of Jack... Sorry man.

I use Linux Mint and start jack via Cadence from KXStudio. Worked perfectly first try.

After I changed the hardware to a Behringer "Guitar 2 USB"-interface, JACK started without a problem

But where is your output? (assuming this is input-only)

I think he means is this device which has USB output. There must be some sort of audio device chip "hidden" inside the USB plug of that nice cable.

It has only input, no output where you will hear your audio.
