Hi there,

well that s what i would like to do: install the new AVLinux on a free partition (very excited about it, haven´t used avlinux in quite a long time) WITHOUT having grub updated. This is because I run manjaro on the same machine and usually Manjaro fails to boot with the debian provided grub...

thank you!

Looks like "kexec" will do the job, this StackOverflow article explains in more detail and has some good links: https://serverfault.com/questions/67802 ... e-hardware

Thanks for your quick answer, i will read into this deeper. Not sure yet if i understand it right: this is a process to "boot" from one kernel into another without rebooting, right? fascinating stuff!

what i would like to do is still boot from the start , but keeping my pre installed grub not updates (which would mean downgraded, as I have a newer version installed than the debian one.. )

Some where during the install process you can select to not install grub. When the install is complete and the machine reboots it will come back to your old Manjaro grub install and boot Manjaro. Once booted you can add AVL to your Manjaro grub and update it. Next time you boot AVL will be a boot option on the menu.

I don't know Manjaro but with a Linux Mint and AVL dual boot I just installed AVL choosing not to install grub, rebooted back to Mint after the install and ran sudo update-grub. The grub config scripts in Mint found the AVL install and added it.
