I do not think it is a problem of being paid or not. It is a matter of many various distros and their versions. I've read up on the issue and I can see that various screen capturing programms seem to work seamlessly for one system and absolutely freeze on others. Windows and MAC OS have an advantage of not having so many versions.

I've SOLVED the screen capture problem. Problem was in the (of course) proprietary video drivers. Turned them off and screen capture now works.

Awesome! recordMyDesktop apparently has issues with the Ati closed source drivers. I use the open source radeon drivers, works well with recordMyDesktop.
