Tribute to Scooter

Post by Louigi Verona »

Okay, this is my second tune on LMMS, this time not a very serious one, just some happy hardcore kinda tune with wide concert-like sound, a real tribute to Scooter (a German techno band, in case someone does not know). The whole point of this tune, apart from having some fun, was to test LMMS TB-303 alternative LB-302 and also try to make a decent gate effect (which did not work as well and I had to do the workaround).

The ogg rendition is here:

The LMMS project and all required samples are here:

Cheers!

Yeah I know Scooter. And I will leave it there ;)
I think it's amazing that you manage to pull this out of LMMS, that piece of software definitely has a lot of potential. Great job Louigi!

If I'll be the one who inspires people to use LMMS more, I'd be very happy!

Dance-floor madness ! :)

I agree with Auto, I'm impressed with how you work with LMMS.

Keep 'em coming.

Best,

Very nice tune. I have no idea what you are doing with lmms? But as others have said this is a great number.

I am treating it like a serious programm and not like some beta version )

I understand the LB-302 is an internal synth in LMMs and can't be used with qtractor for example?

which is clearly an disadvantage of the 'IME' approach ;)
I wonder if there are proprietary apps which does this like LMMS does, or do they use (only) plugins (which looks more logical to me)?

It is a disadvantage only if you want to use it in a modular system. Inside in IME it is an advantage, since it can be saved in a project and you do not need to open LMMS and then additionally another app to have it working. Also, there is still no solid support for LV2 to start basing things on plugins. When this time comes, plugins indeed would seem like a way to go for every synth one designs.

An app, similar to LMMS and which has its own TB-303 clone inside is FL Studio with its TS-404. A TS-404 is not a plugin.

Since my suggestions to put this tune onto LMMS website as a demo of the programm were not answered, I thought - why not record my desktop with LMMS running and post it on YouTube? A great simple solution.

It was later this day that I realized how unrealistic the idea is - I've tried every screen capturing program available for Linux and - of course - none work.

This, in my opinion, is one of the main features of Linux. "If you like surprises, use Linux - you never know what simple task is actually not possible".

I am very disillusioned.

This can be problematic, but afaik autostatic has managed to do something like this with recordmydesktop-gtk

yea, this is true, unfortunatly

on the other hand, the software is free, so the time you spend to make it work might me less worth than the price of paid-software

BUT, I think if all developers would work together on on sistem it would make a perfect sistem...

With all due respect, I do not think the argument "this software is zero price, so do not expect this to work anyway" is not a way to approach free software. Initially I have switched to Linux for philosophical reasons, so I do not mind paying for software.

Additionally, I do not think it is a problem of being paid or not. It is a matter of many various distros and their versions. I've read up on the issue and I can see that various screen capturing programms seem to work seamlessly for one system and absolutely freeze on others. Windows and MAC OS have an advantage of not having so many versions.
