What session managers do people prefer?

Hi all. I'm looking to settle into a groove with a session manager, but I'm not quite sure which way to go. I don't know much about the options, so your feedback is welcomed. Options I'm considering are New Session Manager (NSM), possibly Ray session manager, and the other is LADISH with Claudia? What is your favorite setup?

There is also
Agordejo!
I used both Agordejo and RaySession in the past, lately I settled on RaySession because it has also a patchbay.
I would suggest to try both of them and then decide.

Agordejo is a NSM GUI.
I am a bit biased, but I recommend NSM + Agordejo.
There may be a patchbay coming, one day

I don't use any session manager at all. The two programs I use all the time are autostarted when I switch on, and if I want anything else I start it manually when I need it.
I seldom want to work with the same project as I last worked on, but if I do, it's no problem because both Yoshimi and Rosegarden maintain a 'most recent' list.

There go nils and folderol hawking their own wares again. They're more persistent than viagra ads on fox news.
Anyway, I don't use a session manager because the only music app I use is BackupBand.

Makes sense. With your irrational devotion to ALSA mmap and ALSA rawmidi that's all you can use.

Was that lame retort supposed to be a snarky putdown? If so, I'm offended. Not by your insipid remark, but rather because I've so masterfully trolled people like you that I deserve a vastly better quality of adversary. This is well below the acceptable standard of trolling I deserve. I'm going to insist that the nurses wheel you back into the ward and increase the voltage on the shock generator.

Ray Session and Agordejo are both great programs.

Long story short, LADISH is dead, NSM is the way to go.
LADISH may come back to live as the developer behind it still work on it behind the sense, but, in the current situation more and more applications tend to support NSM instead of LADISH.
Using Agordejo or Ray Session as interface for NSM is just a matter of taste, at least they are both python based, so sooner or later they will die as well.

I tried both, but what the hell, it is not possible to start applications with parameters (because the nsm protocol does not provide it !?).
That's kind of senseless and I really can't understand how one can implement a protocol which has to do with starting applications
if one of the oldest *nix features - using parameters - is not included.
So are there any other suggestions for a session manager ?

In RaySession I can start applications with parameters (set in arguments field).
For what NSM compatible application you need parameters?

Runs "standalone" without complications
Parameter is the stored carla-session-file
May be a carla problem .. I'm not satisfied

Carla in NSM mode has load from file and save to file disabled (correctly), it's up to the NSM session manager to "manage" these kind of operation and instructs its clients to do so, the rationale behind is that you have everything contained in a "session" folder.
If that fits your usecase is another matter.
You could try to run Carla in a non-NSM mode, you can start it as "Executable" and uncheck "NSM protocol". You'll lose the NSM control of that Carla instance of course.

I don't use any session manager - it would be superflous. There are just two things I always want, and they are in my startup script. I press one button and the whole setup starts in the correct sequence - including amplifier (last), external keyboards, soundcanvas and controllers. When I've finished I press the same button and everything shuts down in the safest sequence.
Rosegarden is the last thing to be started in the computer, and it immediately looks for the keyboards soundcanvas and Yoshimi. I'm actually using both soundcanvas and the SY35 inbuilt sounds less and less these days. Very rarely indeed I might start qsynth.
What do I need a session manager for? It would just get in the way.
Hmmm. It seems I (partially) repeat myself. Sorry for that.
