Challenging, since 2007, would be the way I describe my Linux experience. However solving an issue does give me great joy. But not what I would say as fun.

My apologies for citing incorrect syntax in my suggestion. I failed to realize the permission issue with sudo. I'm happy you grasped the intent of the commands.

For future reference sudo -s is what was needed.

Code: Select all

sudo -s

then....

Code: Select all

echo "options snd_usb_audio implicit_fb=1" > /etc/modprobe.d/UMC202.conf
Now reboot.

Unfortunate that it did not help. Given the problem exists in multiple operating systems the best guess would be the device is defective.

andrewwt27 wrote: Wed Apr 20, 2022 3:22 am Again attitude. "It helps if you put command line between [code) tags for readability. This error:". What does that mean? I don't know what you are saying but somehow I feel like I should have known.
You don't know netiquette. It really helps us to read your posts if (command line) code is between code tags. That's not "attitude". They're not there for nothing. You get our help for free, we don't have to do that. If I'm honest then to me it's you that has an attitude. What do you expect from me? To tell you that your posts are perfectly readable when I have a lot of trouble to decipher text from code in 'm? You do things for us, we do things for you.

And now you've got "attitude" from me: I tried to help you but what I got is your accusation that I have a bad attitude towards you. I've lost interest in helping you. I will unsubscribe from this topic. I wish you all the best with the Focusrite device and I hope that it works out of the box. Because if you ask for help on trying to get it to work with your attitude you're bound to rub people the wrong way.

Another tip: most of the problems you have seem to stem from problems with experience with Linux. If you find it hard to add a text file with one configuration line to a system folder then a little hobby-ing with Linux will help a great deal. Example: I told you to create a file in the system dir /etc/modprobe.d/. For a Linuxer that's easy peasy. If you're a Linux beginner: maybe not so. So to do that you literally copied and pasted @bluzee's solution on the command line. It didn't work because apparently one needs "sudo -s" for that instead of good old simple "sudo". How can you be mad at me for that? I didn't tell you to do it that way didn't I? Now that's what we call attitude. I'm not your Mother who takes your hand and can read your mind so I know what Linux skill you have and which you don't.

Bye @andrewwt27

My apologies. I didn't understand what was being said. I still don't exactly know what you mean by making my post more readable. I have been lazy in the past few years and spoiled by most things now being gui. I have to relearn some of the skills I have use years ago. Mostly because up until now I been able to get everything to work. Obviously I have to ask advice from others with more Linux experience. It Just seemed like You expected to know more than I do. Again sorry if that sounded like attitude.

Firstly I want to point to the web space "welcome we're glad you're here !" I was glad I was here and was asking for the second time in 25 years as a Ubuntu user for help. I haven't played with scripts or command line stuff much in at least ten years. I guess maybe it shocked me or made me feel slightly unwelcome, All that being said I want to really really thank everyone that helped. It was good to have a place to ask for help. I might not know netiquette . It might be because the last time I communicated with someone for help it was via IRC. (does anyone still do that?) Lastly and by this I mean you can close the thread , I got a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2. Works out of the box. Twice the money but minus the playback issues. Worth it . I hope this thread can help someone in the future, sorry if I have been unkind . I but I guess I'm not a "Linuxer", just a 25 year happy user of Ubuntu. I've done what was needed years ago to make things work. I haven't done digital recording with Ubuntu before. I have been recording on a 8 bit machine with 2Gb memory. So to think of 24 bit 192kz with 4Tb of memory made me a bit over zealous I guess. Thanks again all !

Glad you found success with the Scarlett.

I post things in command line format because it's much simpler than describing how to go through a GUI to do the same thing. I recall being asked to leave a forum once by a mod because they wanted Linux to be Windows and only use GUI.

I'm so happy! All I wanted was for something to just work. Being spoiled as I said with no command line in years, I was as dumb as a post for a minute or two. But you still tried to help. The card should be put on the non compatible list until a workaround can be found. I say again thanks for the support.

I have a same issue with an UMC202HD. Seems Behringer uses a new harware revision. XMOS usb audio interface is
replaced with DICE III TC3000 usb streamer chip.
My snd_usb_audio kernel module does not support implicit_fb parameter.
So I need to boot Windows, set sample rate and reboot in Linux without dissconecting USB power from
UMC202HD. In Pulseaudio or Jack2 , I am using the same samplerate as in Windows. Playback is flawless this way.
Seems support of new USB streamer chip is incomplete in snd_usb_audio module.
