Jack Limited to 48kS/s in 5.16 Kernel

Hi all.
I recently built a new system to dedicate to DAW function. I made the mistake of buying updated hw (12th gen i5, alder lake integrated graphics, x690 chipset - all quite new at time of writing). This is a mistake because, as best as I can tell, the drivers for this hardware were only integrated in the 5.16 kernel. On current AVL and Ubuntu Studio, the onboard he is unclaimed in lshw, so video is extremely limited and onboard network ports don't work.

My intent was run AVL, but I wasn't sure about updating the kernel for it, so I switched to Ubuntu Studio. Mostly because the .debs were on kernel.ubuntu.com. If someone could point me to kernel sources that would work for AVL, is prefer that. But changing to 5.16rc8 on US fixed the video and networking problems.

But new problem. When I start Jack, I can't push the sample rate past 48k. On AVL (still running 5.11) the same he setup will do 96k no problem.

Ideas?

From the AV Linux User Manual:
If you require a change from the default AVL-MXE Kernel then there are a few options to look at. First
there is an alternate AVL-MXE ‘lowlatency’ Kernel that still features ‘partial preemption’ and allows for the
installation of nVidia Video drivers. To find this Kernel to install open the Synaptic Package Manager and
enter ‘linux-image-lowlatency’ and ‘linux-headers-lowlatency’ in the ‘Quick filter’ and make sure you install
the matching version numbers for each, it is suggested for security purposes to install the most recent
version. Another great alternative is the ‘Liquorix’ Kernel and it can be searched in Synaptic with the
terms ‘linux-image-liquorix’ and ‘linux-headers-liquorix’ again paying attention to installing matching
version numbers.
The current release of AVL 2021 (not the RC2 of the next release) includes the Liquorix repositories which will give you access to both the latest kernels available and the advantage of the tuning Liquorix provides.. It's all right there, you just need to read the Manual... :D

I'm not having any luck getting AVL to use the Liquorix kernel. I followed what installations steps I can find

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install linux-image-liquorix-amd64 linux-headers-liquorix-amd64
But the `uname` still gives me `5.9.1-rt20avl1 #1 SMP PREEMPT_RT Sat Oct 31 12:21:58 EDT 2020 x86_64 GNU/Linux`.

I've update/upgrade/rebooted the system a few times and the liquorix kernel isn't selectable in my GRUB loader. Am I missing something?

If it installed correctly then maybe run

Code: Select all

sudo update-grub
Do you see it there in the output of that command?
