You'll never believe this but I did it.

What other apps and distros do you use to round out your studio?

I tried UbuntuStudio/64Studio but I think my CD/DVD (rom) is dying so I thought I'd have one more crack at getting it all to work on Linux Mint 7.

*** It worked. :D
I even managed to play Hydrogen notes through Virtual Keyboard, wooo hooo

Now I have one last question.
Is there a resource for things like Hydrogen? Preferably free at the moment while I get used to the new stratus please?

I'm assuming I need synths now to run midi when I re attach the sound card.
Many thanks and have a great new year. No rush at all.

Cheers.

Hello Chipfryer, with resources you mean sample packs? If so you got to have these ones:
http://www.autodafe.net/gscw-drum-kit-f ... chine.html

I also have a Hydrogen kit for the following sample pack: http://www.analoguedrums.com/details-bm.php
I can't distribute it freely I think but if you want it just let me know. I didn't work with it yet though.

Hey Auto thanks for that :D
I'll try them out for sure.

What I need now are some good keys really. I understand Steinberg's run but sometimes crash but that defeats the object of being totally linux.
Thanks very much again, have a great new year.

Chippy.

I'm not really aware of a good list of nice synths, but http://wiki.linuxmusicians.com/doku.php ... audio_data might be a nice start.

Also check out synths like zynaddsubfx and sineshaper

Synths I personally like:
  • ZynAddSubFX
  • Phasex
  • Hexter
  • Calf Organ
And if you want to play some piano you could check out LinuxSampler.
