Rainbow Dream

Post by jeanette_c »

Hey hey, this is a kind of synth/Berlin school trackk, inspired by Tangerine Dream's Sun Gate, but with my own take on things. :)

The instruments used were entirely hardware, except for the Csound generated snare. There is some RD-8 (TR-808 clone) in it, which is good and proper for #808Day 2021.
Best wishes and enjoy, Jeanette

Very nice! I liked a lot of the interplay between the bass and the melody. :D

I think I must definitely lay that praise at the door of Tangerine Dream.
In sound desigh, I thik, I had the most fun imitating the "Digital Native Dance" patch from the Roland D-50. I skipped the rhythmic sequence fading in, because - dramatic as it might sound - it never interested me that much. But I love the sweeping noise component. It's funny, even though I have a Roland Jv synth with all the samples for that sound, the patch wasn't part of the factory presets. Certainly not under that name or any obvious variation thereof. :)

Nice track! It builds nicely and has a lovely soundscape.

I always thought that Tangerine Dream did more interesting things with music and melody than they did with sound. Kraftwerk, by contrast, were sound engineers first and songwriters as an afterthought.

Thanks!

Don't let Kraftwerk hear you say that. :) I got that feeling that both of these groups had definite ideas about songwriting, but they differed widely from previous concepts. In a way Kraftwerk, I think, approached songwriting with a much stricter and restricted attitude than Tangerine Dream, who allowed more flow and improvisation into their music.
To be fair and self-deprecatingly honest, I "wrote" this song without any structural or philosophical concept in mind. :) I stuck to my favourite credo of music inception: whatever sounds good. :) I can't deny automatically picking up a few structures that I'm familiar with, just as well as familiar harmonies. That, alas, is why I could most certainly not write a good thesis on any art topic. I'm far too driven by enjoying myself, even when technical mischief, compository skulduggery and musical fancies are involved. In the end it always comes down to expressing a feeling, chasing a sound of my dreams or irresistibly evoking an atmosphere. Forget about subtlety on that level. :)
I am sorry for that lengthy declaration of intent, but the context was too tempting to pass. :)
Best wishes, jeanette

Hi,

This is a rich collection of sounds, a strong composition and a great reminder that good hardware is good hardware no matter what else is going on. I'm not a schooled student of Electronic music in any past present or future tense of the word. I do recall one of the first albums with a lot of Synthesizers I actually really noticed and enjoyed was 'Arc of A Diver' by Steve Winwood. While this composition doesn't really sound anything like Arc of a Diver some of the hardware synth sounds remind me of the synths used on that album.. Sorry to digress..

Another great track Jeanette!

I like "alchemistry". Perhaps it is a bit like alchemy, mixing together several esoteric things to find out if something potent results. :)
