Hello
I have just installed 64 Studio 3.0. But now I have only a screen resolution of 800x600.
On my ubuntu I had 1680 x 1050 with a proprietary driver. In 64studio it says: "No proprietary driver are in use on this system"
I have a NVIDIA Geforce 7025 onboard
Low screen resolution in 64 studio

Re: Low screen resolution in 64 studio
Can someone can help me with the installation of the nvidia driver? I have installed the package 'nvidia-glx-new' and 'nvidia-new-kernel-source' via synaptic. But nothing changed.
Re: Low screen resolution in 64 studio
That might get answered more quickly over at Ubuntu Scary. I had a similar problem some time back and installed those packages too I believe but for some reason it just went away though rebooting and using Computer Janitor did remove some older and unused files.

When it comes to nvidia graphic cards, ubuntu is a lot easier than 64studio.
It seems that you need to change the resolution in xorg.conf and/or install the propietary nvidia drivers . What kernel are you running (uname -r)?
The 64studio fora have several threads on kernel and graphics troubleshooting .
This one might help you.

Good luck! Pablo

Re: Low screen resolution in 64 studio
I remember trying to install the nvidia driver in 64studio 3 and failing miserably. Some kernel header or module thingymagick was missing for their 2.6.xx-multimedia kernel. In the end, I messed up the entire system (I'm good at that).
My current 64studio system has a matrox card, also with proprietary drivers, but at least I managed to compile those. On the other hand, I have two UbuntuStudio 9.10 systems, one with a Radeon using open drivers, and one with a Geforce 9800, using the ubuntu nvidia-185 proprietary package, and both work flawlessly.
Well, did, because I managed to shoot one system down again. Told you I was good at that.

Re: Low screen resolution in 64 studio
Thank you Chipfryer, Pablo and spm_gl
didn't find a way to install the driver. I installed Ubuntu Studio 9.10 and the driver was installed automatically.
Seem to be better for me, because I'm also good in messing up my system.
Now I can do what I like most. Making music.

Re: Low screen resolution in 64 studio
You can go to their website and find the appropriate drivers with their drop down menus. Once you download, an icon for installing the drivers should appear on your desktop. Next, (if you are using vista at least) you should go to start->control panel->programs and features and find NVIDIA Drivers in the programs list. You'll want to uninstall this 'program' before you do anything else. Then you should restart your computer. (you may or may not be prompted to do this when you uninstall the driver). When windows loads back up, don't let it automatically install new hardware. Now you can try installing the new driver. This should work, but if it doesn't, let us know and we'll go from there. But you should always uninstall the old drivers first just to be safe.

Re: Low screen resolution in 64 studio
Just so you know: 64 Studio has switched its base distro to Ubuntu. The betas of 3.0 are now set up for much easier video configuration.
However, I also still use 64 Studio 2.1, with a proprietary nVidia driver. Installing it isn't rocket science, but it's not exactly trivial either. Unless you're sure you know what you're doing I'd say you're currently better off with an Ubuntu-based distro.
Best,

Re: Low screen resolution in 64 studio
I may be a little late on this, as I see the post is a few months old...
Anyway, I'm using 64Studio 3.0 with an Nvidia card, but running the open source drivers instead. Everything runs without problems so far.
I believe there was an issue with the installation of the Nvidia binary drivers with their 2.6.29 rt kernel. They are currently testing the 2.6.31 rt kernel, so maybe this issue is already addressed, but I'm not sure.
You could try asking in their forums for assistance; they are quite helpful (specially Quentin) - at least that has been my experience.
