Greets from southern USA!

I became obsessed with tracker mods/chiptunes in the early 00s, after hearing them for the first time on online forums/websites. As an American, I never really had much exposure other than that (never used an Amiga, etc.), but I started learning about electronic music in general over the years. At the moment I'm mostly using LMMS, but I'd like to try other DAWs if I build up the patience to properly configure JACK. I might pop in to ask music/FOSS questions.

I'm @roswold on soundcloud if you are curious.

Hello and welcome! Trackers were really cool. There are a few FLOSS projects which tried to make trackers suited for modern music production, such as radium and the tutka. You might want to check them out, even if as someone who started on trackers myself I think LMMS is quite good. Are you finding any limitations on LMMS? If not, maybe it's best to stay there, else there is MusE which you might try.

I went to Soundcloud and listened to your stuff. I think it's quite good! Inadvertant Obsession reminded me of Yuzo Koshiro.

There is also a "new" cool (MIDI) tracker: Valhalla Tracker.

If you want to look at other FOSS DAWs I can suggest you these:

@Basslint Thanks! I listened to Yuzo Koshiro on youtube - very interesting. I think that's the sort of thing I would aspire to - music with a better defined structure (but maybe I won't go all the way to proper musical notation :P).

LMMS is really excellent, there's no problem really. I suppose any desire to try other DAWs is partly curiosity and partly that I would like to find something with a smoother workflow for me. Thanks for the suggestions, I will make an effort to give them a go.
