Say I have created a complex pattern on one drum kit in the pattern editor and then decide to change to a different drum kit, but want to keep the same rhythm. When I load the new kit I find the various instruments are often not in the same place in the pattern editor, so that what was the snare might be a hand clap or high hat. How can I move the pattern to a different instrument without re-entering it all by hand, or, alternately, how can I move instruments to different positions in the kits?
This is my first exposure to hydrogen. I'd expect this to be a common task so I assume I'm missing something obvious, but I'm missing it nonetheless.
Any help??
BTW - I did try searching google and here first, to no avail - the search results here report that "hydrogen" is too common a word and therefore ignored in the search!

Re: Hydrogen: swap 2 sounds or 2 rhythms in pattern editor??
I asked a similar question some time ago (I just wanted to replace the snare sound in an existing song). I was able to accomplish it by editing the .h2song file. The parts you need to change are near the top of the file. I can't tell you exactly how to determine what you need to change except that it's pretty easy to figure out by comparing two h2song files.

Thank you! I was looking for something in the gui since it seemed a reasonable thing to do. Your suggestion works fine since it isn't something I would do often, and while I haven't looked yet I suspect I can edit the actual drum kit files in a similar way and "line up" kits as desired if I find I do this too often.
For any others wondering, the suggestion worked, but I found I had to switch the actual order the instruments are listed, not the ID number, which is odd considering the use, or at least presence of instrument ID tags in both the instrument definition portion and the pattern sequence portion of the .h2song files:
Seems to partially miss the point of xml if you don't rely on tags present but on the physical order, similarly the odd use of redundant use of tags like <drumkit> in each instrument which, from what I can tell, don't really matter (tried changing them to random stuff in each instrument to no effect). Still, I'm thrilled to know how to change this!

Hi!
In addition, you can easily change the position of the instruments in the pattern editor just by dragging. Yes, it is better if you line up the different kits before you write the notes.
google for 'hydrogen music'. There is an active forum there.
Cheers! Pablo
