#Video meet
#LNXMuSCNS video meet Saturday April 17 / 6pm GMT / 8pm CEST / 14.00 EDT
#time-zone-convert to mytime.io

You are invited and most welcome and we don't know how to party anyway

It's an open cafe with no particular schedule, stay as long as you like, it usually runs 3+ hours so do join in later if you can.

Come meet and talk and chat about anything Linux audio related.

Join at fairmeeting.net/alinuxmusiciansvideomeeting.
Video and mic usage is optional, meeting room chat is open for all.

This thread is posted to track any notes and stuff that may come up and to help spread the word.

There's a shared scratchpad agenda open (no login req.) at framapad.org.
  • Meeting platform is Jitsi and supported by most browsers. Generously hosted by fairkom in Austria.
  • When joining you may see a notice about being the only participant, ignore that, if anyone else is in the room they'll appear within seconds
  • in the settings menu there's a audio and video device chooser with mic check level meter
  • RTFM at jitsi.github.io/handbook if you want
This will be the 7th linuxmusicians.com video meet organized on @briandc's initiative.

Here are some bullet point minutes from meet#2, meet#3 and a thread from meet#4, meet#5 and meet#6

Thanks to @briandc, @Fmajor7add9, @LAM, @SpotlightKid, @PieterPenninckx, @robbert-vdh, @rghvdberg, @dreamer, @Michael Willis, and @Sahaathyva for joining the video meet for a good chat. I hope I didn't forget anyone.
  • Abandonware -- it's probably fixable but needs ongoing maintenance. Arch PKGBUILDS can often show how to build software.
  • yabridge -- robbert-vdh has written yabridge which supports VST3. Suitable for Windows refugees or anyone who wants to run Windows plugins.
  • Ardour demo from me. VCAs. Using views.
  • Mastering -- LUFS may mean the loudness wars are over.
  • demo of diopser and spectral-compressor plugins from robbert-vdh. Two creative effects.
  • demo of Drops from rghvdberg. Everything is automatable. LFOs sync with JACK transport.
  • zero-crossings don't exist, especially on a stereo file.
  • Although for example Drops could have a lot of controls, is that the best idea?
  • Mediaeval music, intonation, tuning, polyphony, harmony
  • Congratulations to LAM who won the Libre Music Challenge #8
  • Listening fatigue, neutral ears, does it sound good the next day?
  • Recording improvisation

Quite enjoyable geeks meet and talk

More so than Oliver Stone's clearly broken Snowden movie and Snowden is a legit unbroken hero. A multimedial experience it became for me. A mash-up, really.

Even if I don't have a clue about what someone is showing the back and forth is still way more engaging than another good youtube tutorial.

@rghvdberg congratulations on dropping Drops. I'll ask you more about how the actual coding is done and how you got started another time.

I really enjoyed the @merlyn demo about VCAs, it's a feature I never used in Ardour but it's very interesting indeed.
An alternative way to organize the detached Mixer window, when not using a second screen, is to use the tabbed mode in i3wm, so you have in the same workspace the Editor and the Mixer and you can easily switch between them.

Yes, thanks everyone for the (7th?) enjoyable meeting/evening! Always interesting stuff to discuss and share. I really enjoyed seeing the desktop presentations; @merlyn 's presentation of Audour got me thinking about it anew. I've got some definite laziness to get over! :)
And @rghvdberg 's presentation of Drops was nice, too. What a filter!!

I already have a question or two to ask you guys this coming Saturday...!

Hope to see everyone--- and new faces are always welcome, too.
Truly an enjoyable experience!

Brian
