:?: hi I am a newbi and try to configure jackcontrol but RT flikkers on and of and messages tells me
JACK: unable to mlock() port buffers: Cannot allocate memory :?
any who can tell me what I dit rong? S.C. Dick

Hi, Dick. First you need to check that you're a member of the audio group: in a terminal type "groups" ( without the quotes) and see if audio is listed.
if not, as root, type " useradd -G audio username" ( without quotes again) replacing username with your actual username.
Then, as root, edit the file /etc/security/limits.conf and add these lines:

@audio - rtprio 99
@audio - memlock amount

where amount is either unlimited or a large amount in KB e.g 1048576 ( =1GB )

let us know how get you on with that.

This is normal, it means RT mode is on.
messages tells me JACK: unable to mlock() port buffers: Cannot allocate memory
The memlock tip by GarryO above might help here. Note that you might need to reboot to have changes to limits.conf to take affect.

I believe a logout/login sequence should be enough after you update the user property (new group, new allowed limits).
