Bring in the dancing girls :)

I booted my previous pc, booted windows 7, and guess what I found Duality.mmpz

I am almost going insane of joy. :P

My back up systems works. (having the lmms files both on the Linux and Windows hard-disk)

Cool.

I'm in the middle of moving house the hard way. Carry big loads in my big hybrid backpack, walk an hour, unpack. I'm resting my feet today, no dancing.

I prefer to be known as a figment of the 'nets imagination, living in the future, waiting for the rest of you to catch up.

I have been looking at the files.

I am still happy because I now have all the notes, but how the track sounds....

When I start the file in LMMS, LMMS complains it can't find the synths (vst), nor the ladspa plugins.

The tracks were Synth 1 was used are now fixed, but I do not have a clue on what preset I used.

The tracks were ZASFX was used are still fine, also the drums tracks are still fine.

The melody does not have synth arpeggios, and to my big surprise I had used the T force alpha plus for the bassline.
Found the used preset, Acid 01

https://www.kvraudio.com/product/t-forc ... code-music

There seems to be a newer version of that synth, version II. (instant trance sound with this synth)

I have working version again. It does not sound 100% as the original I made, but for now I am close enough.

I looks like this was mend as a house track :P Chord progression ? What is chord progression.

And that is exactly what I am hearing in my head, it needs more chord progression.

Now what will be my next step ? Deleting all plugins ? (reverb and stuff like that ) or trying to fix them.

I see a frequency analyzer that is not working.

I do know what the base of the issues is. LMMS cant find stuff anymore because the directory structure is changed.

Lmms wont scan your pc, it will just use the paths in the file. So if they are changed (and they are) the shit hits the fan.
For most vst the solution is rather easy. Browse from LMMS to the vst again.

This is gonna be a lot of work, but I think I can unlock the potential the track has in my head.

It just needs a better (longer) chord progression.

I am a bit stuck, but do have the original sound back.

I was making something progressive, still no clue if its house or trance.
But who cares ?

Simple panning of some synth has made it less muddy.

Using eight synths
And this is were I get stuck.

Do I want just a build up to all playing or do I want to make variation, by soloing synths.
Should I make more melody changes?

I also have this happy little accident, I think its the TAP stereo echo plugin causing it, and I like it.
It makes my main loop more interesting.

I also lowered the BPM, from over 130 to 126.

It needs an intro but this is were I am now, a bit stuck.

Would love feedback.

In the song cover I'm working on I'm layering various standard drum loops, slowly building up to all of them playing at once. To be followed by an embarrassed me saying "Oops, got carried away there. Sorry". Coz in the original Nick Mason goes nuts on his drums, and I'm not that talented.

Might inspire you one way or another. B-)

LOL, well that is one thing I am wondering about.

Am I overdoing it ?

Still I love my loop.

It also need final mixing, but I first want to have he basic track ready.
Then I will mix with my studio monitors.

Things I wonder about, does it need more variation in the chord progression?

Or should I try, what I call the acid house way. Change filters ?

Or just leave and make an intro ?

I have working version again. It does not sound 100% as the original I made, but for now I am close enough.

I once tried to remake an old track, but it turned out sounding really sterile. Reproducing the exact sound, and timing, everything what made the original sounding much better than the remake, despite having much worse sound quality, turned out to be a hopeless endeavour. So I settled for making a different version altogether, which did turn out quite well, i.m.humble.o.

I agree it needs an intro. You could start the cliche way, with the kick, and see where that leads you.

I had given up on trying to get the exact same sound, but found it anyway. :)

The not finished track already has one like on soundcloud.

I am also gonna try to talk to a DJ.

I have heard people react to some of my tracks, people who are in to music, and they claim there is potential.

The original has an intro like that. But I do not like it anymore, its too long.

Maybe I just need to stay close to the original though.

Some highpass filter. The tunnel, like in a lot of house and trance music.

I am gonna try to shorten my loop for the intro, see were that gets me. :)

Progress

I have an intro now.

Its a string part that was already there, backed up by another synth.

Not yet the arpeggio notes.

Track is currently 5m50 sec.

Might want to make a tad shorter. Most beatles hits only were around 2 and half minutes. :P

From memory the original album version of the song I'm covering is 7 minutes, though I'm inspired by the live version which can get up to 13 minutes. Mine's currently 22. Pink Floyd liked making lengthy music.

Somebody did a Pink Floyd intro in LMMS.

https://soundcloud.com/neilbgr/shine-on ... zy-diamond

I was totally in shock this is possible with LMMS.
Three layered instances of zasfx.

But I am having a problem.

LMMS says it can't find Vestige.

I did an opensuse update yesterday, and I wonder if this is wine related.
This sucks because there are at least 3 vst in duality.

Its not just in the project I am working on. :(

Just cut all repetitions. Or, listen to your track over and over: there's bound to be something there that starts to annoy you at some point. Cut that out and enjoy a better song; repeat until you get the feeling that any more cutting will start to hurt the song.

That is exactly the problem I have, I make a loop I like and then want it to be very long.

This changed when I started to notice, all hits not made by me are not repeating the same stuff over and over.

Oxygene IV always has been to short for me. There is something to learn from this for me. :)

Even tracks like this do not repeat the same loop for 10 min.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RTrXIlB1RbA
With this kind of music there is always something hiding how repetitive it is.
More sounds join and or filter changes.

I want my track to be around 4 min. :)
