Hi everyone,
would anyone here be interested in connecting online (eg. on Google Meet) to chat about anything and everything linux and music and whatever?
We could do a one-time meeting, or try to find a time that would work for most people to meet regularly. It could be a lot of fun!

Any thoughts? (maybe people here are already doing it?)

I've just had my first week on https://explorer.jamulus.io and it really makes me wonder why so much of my musical SoMe time has been spent reading and typing and watching when all the tools are there for free to be used and how much more engaging it can be to just talk togethere (doh).

Libre tools aplenty, https://meet.jit.si/ is bona fide AFAIK, https://framasoft.org/en/ may host others. I can setup a temp jamulus server for EU users if anyone wants to jam real-time.

Would gladly join, only if done via 100% libre software, though

I want in on this, we should find some way/time that we can say "hello" to those across the giant pond(s). What if we try something like 18:00, 19:00 or 20:00 GMT? That's around lunch time for some of us in the west hemisphere, and evening time for EU.

For me it would have to be with free software.

Wow! Great to see so much interest!
I have absolutely no qualms about using a different, open platform. I'm open to suggestions!
About times.... I agree with Michael about a "middle ground", although more than one meeting time could be arranged to accomodate others in other timezones, too. Even Fmajor7Add9's idea of a 24/7 meeting room is interesting, although I wonder if that would make things a bit dispersive. Personally I think having a fixed time would increase the sense of commitment.

I've been made familiar with Google Meet, Zoom and Teams (blah) for work reasons. But I'd love to try something more linux-based, for sure.

How about times and day(s)? What works best for you?
Should people be invited directly via email, or through a link available to anyone?

If you don't mind me forking ... I'll open a jitsi room later today and share an invite here for anyone inclined and interested. Screen sharing is possible there, as well as audio and video, for me to get a peek at someone elses system would be a valuable use of time and a chance to learn something new.

So is a jitsi room just a place to share files? Or is it the video chat? If it's for chatting, I think it would be good to set a time, or find out first who is free and when.

Jitsi is a video chat program. Also, it would be better to set a password, even one shared here, to at least slow down bots.

The one I use is a chat room with video, audio and screen sharing options

I dropped in last night; I saw someone's desktop briefly, and then they closed off.

Anyway, my suggestion is that we arrange a specific meeting time that will work for most people. Then we can consider multiple times if people want to have an alternative time.
But having a chat room 24/7 doesn't help to get people together, imo.

Can we come up with some possible times/days?
Personally my weekends are usually flexible. I'm on GMT +1, (Rome time).
