Hi.
Anybody using sidux as a DAW and/or for MIDI sequencing? I just installed sidux 2009-02 on my laptop (used KDE-Lite amd64 CD), along with their rt kernel. So far it's performing well. Although it's KDE4, CPU usage level in Rosegarden is very low. The only thing I did was to edit the limits.conf file as suggested for audio use.
Any hints, ideas or experiences?
Anybody out there using sidux as MIDI-Audio Workstation?

hi
yes, I use sidux since 2006, and have use kanotix befor. I use the Xfce version, because I don't like KDE.
Performance is very well for me.
But I switch for example to jack2, and have installed a lot app's from source. There for I build the *.deb packets and involve the packet manger to install them. This makes the dist-upgrade a bit more easy.
Also I build my kernels from source. I don't like console-kit and disable it.

Interesting. As a curiosity, what type of customizations do you use on your kernels (i mean, things that you disable/enable to get better performance), apart from the rt patch and 1khz clock settings?brummer wrote:hi

How is Jack2 behaving?
Back to the main topic, sidux seems like a nice base for building a nice DAW. At least the lite version that I just installed runs very well in my computer. Even the rt kernel they offer looks promising. Let's see how it goes during the next days.

hi
I build the kernel special for my CPU, and disable all modules I don't need for my hardware. Also I leave all special sidux(slh) patch's out and use the vanila kernel instead.
There is nothing wrong with the rt kernel from makke, I only used sidux with rt-kernel long befor makke offer his rt-kernels, so I just follow my old behaviour.
jack2 have a better performance for my, special when jackd is idle,
let sidux rock.
