Re: Ubuntu (Studio) 9.10
I didn't have any joy with it frankly. 9.04 was excellent but in 9.10 Sys Monitor was screwed up the same happened on 64 too. 64 couldn't find my Etho connection either so I un-installed it and went back to Linux Mint. There were a number of other problems I had which to be honest were small but I'm sorry faith just dropped.
Of course I'll use it again at some point and might even bug test it on another box just to be certain it wasn't just me but the Ubuntu forum itself validated what I am now saying at that time too.
One thing it did do very well was browse the web much faster than anything I've used on limited memory.
In fact I may load it on the test box this afternoon. I found installation (64Studio) not entirely consumer friendly. Just my take, everyone has different experiences based on several factors.

I've tested both, they work very well. For my initial tests I ran QJackCtl continuously for eight hours. Under the normal kernel I saw xruns appear about once every two hours, I don't know what causes them. Under the rt kernel there were no xruns at all.studio32 wrote:Are both kernels good? generic and RT?
Given a properly configured limits.conf I suppose that the normal kernel is good enough for lightweight realtime work.
Btw, previous incarnations of Ubuntu have been difficult to set up for audio work on my HP G60 notebook, despite the addition of the UStudio packages. However, I've been surprised by Karmic. Even my wifi works now, which never worked before with Ubuntu. But I agree with chipfryer that when it comes to Ubuntu everyone's mileage will differ.
Best,

Had (and still do have) problems after having upgraded to 9.10, but no audio problems.
Installed Ubuntu Studio from the CLI, rt kernel works fine, though normal kernel work fine as well.
