OnTIs-59 Title Screen Theme (Video Game Soundtrack)

Post by finotti »

This is the title screen theme for a video game my son is making (still in early alpha), called OnTIs-59. Very electronic/synth heavy. No guitars on this one... :-(

The pads and bass are u-he's Diva and the theme is Zyn. Sequenced in Muse and mixed in Ardour.

Suggestions and constructive criticism are always welcome!

Hi @finotti , I like this synth-vibe of this track. Never having played video games I don't know much about the requirements and guidelines, but in my mind I kept hearing Jean-Michel Jarre'esque modulated filter sweeps and noise bursts. Besides the adviseability for video games, such sounds would brand the scene as a space setting (as in spaceships). :)
If there will be dialogue I think you scooped out a good frequency band from the drums.

Quite good! Reminded me of those mod-based themes of old Amiga games. This one in particular brought Flashback to mind for some reason.

Thanks @jeanette_c and @Rainmak3r for taking the time to listen!

I am not very familiar with Jean-Michel Jarre, but maybe I should take a look for some inspiration for next projects. This style is a bit outside of my comfort zone.

Thanks again!

Very nice synthwave track!

Cool!

I immediately felt that this needs a big (gated) snare. And, yep, that's what happened :)

Incidentally I watched (force fed by youtubes algorithms...) a video the other day about the origins of the gated snare, apparently they stumbled on the effect by a fortunate accident while recording one of Peter Gabriels earlier albums.

I concur with (pretty much) everyone else, this has a definite video game vibe, hope your son is happy with what you got so far :)

Thanks!

I think Phil Collins mentions the gated reverb story in his book. (Or maybe I had heard it somewhere else.) I am a huge Genesis fan, as might be apparent. :-)
