Naked God featuring Spamatica - Dystopian Dreams (melodeathindustrial)

Post by oscillator »

Another rewarding collaboration, this time with @spamatica!

Naked God featuring Spamatica - Dystopian Dreams

It was an interesting challange to write something melodeath-inspired, coming from a more industrial background. Spamatica's guitars helped a lot! Many thanks, @spamatica! A wonderful guitar solo!

This was hard to mix, but I aimed for a "more is more" approach, the in your face approach, distorted yet melodic.

Programming and voice: Staffan Melin
Guitars: Spamatica

Tools: Debian 10/Stable, MusE, AVL drums, Surge, Calf Fluidsynth, Calf FX, Dragonfly Reverb.

This was both great fun and a great learning experience!

Nice destructive darkness about this track. It works very well! The vocals are perhaps a smidge too distorted for my liking, but that's only a remark of taste. The snare is a different matter, sounding very thin compared to the rest. I am not very familiar with the AVL kit, I only tried it once or twice and borrowed a tom or something from it. So this might well be the sample itself.
Great guitar work and guitar production! And just a good song! Thanks for sharing, I needed something like that after the tenuous xmas contact today. :)

Nicely done, oscillator! I'd agree that the vocals have a bit too much drive applied. Aside from that though, I find the levels of everything else seem balanced. I'm digging the rhythm guitar tone too, it fits in really well with the kick. Good work from spamatica! Like the wah effect at around 3:16.

Thanks a lot for your comments! I got the advice earlier to switch, maybe to DrumGizmo, so maybe it is time, so I get more control of my drum sounds. Or drumkv1, I used that before, it is simple but great!

If you'd like to try something easier to start with i9n drums, you might try the Salamander drumkit. It's an SFZ which works in LinuxSampler and - probably - in Sforzando. Maybe you could even mix and match. Though Drumgizmo is nice. I think I want to try it again, it used to crash without th GUI on my system. :(

Thanks! This was a nice break from the usual kinds of guitar I play. :)

Also, I've got an alternative mix here... that might be posted in a bit. (:

Good collab guys, very impressive dystopian atmosphere.

Nice song, and cool solo! I personally don't think vocals are too effected or filtered, they sound like I often heard them in the genre. What sounds a bit lackluster are drums, probably, which might benefit from more presence. I'm definitely not the best to give suggestions (my drums never sound great either  ), but for the genre I would indeed look into Drumgizmo, as it has several drumkits specifically tailored for heavier music, like the Aasimonster or the Muldjord kit I always use myself. I've heard great things about the Crocell Kit but unfortunately I've never found something easy to setup to use it in Ardour.
