Second and first

Hey hey, Second and First is a progrock long track. In case you listened to "Music for a new world", this is much better mixed and balanced. It was meant as a lovesong, but things being as they were, never got a chance to be finished. The absence of vocals is obvious in some places. It still marks quite a journey of genres, from symphonic prog, to easy listening, bigband, fusion...

On the Linux side it involved a lot of LinuxSampler with the Salamander drumkit and commercial samples from Sampletekk: a piano, Solina strings, a Wurlitzer electric piano, possibly a Rhodes too and a brass section. A free electric bass soundfont, setBfree for the Hammond organ. This piece also includes Joy Bausch on guitars, a Clavinet and some live percussion. Seeing that the recording sessions were some time ago, I am not sure whether the Mellotron and celesta sounds are also LinuxSampler or from a hardware instrument.
All recording, mixing and mastering was performed on Linux using LADSPA plugins and jconvolver, possibly no LV2 plugins at that time.
Share and enjoy, Jeanette

I literally just listened to "Music for a new world" before jumping on this
I can definitely hear the improvements in the mix, and most importantly, this track has cool guitars too! I like that, as you said, it's indeed a mix of different things: that's what actually "progressive" means to me, rather than just weird tempos, so it fits the bill. I particularly like the "eastern" vibes in the intro, and the piano solo towards the end (which reminded me of Renaissance, another prog band I love) followed by the airy outro, which ships a great guitar solo (kudos to Joy!).

The intro reminds me of something by Yes, in the style.

Great buildups! Chord changes feels very progressive.

Very nice dynamics in tempo but especially in instrumentation.

Awesome composition, truly! Liked the romantic part around 4.00. Balkan sounds at 6.30! :D

Would like some more bottom, maybe? And the drums are rhythmically very interesting, but could be more dynamic.
