Hey folks,
Here's a little doodle that I started on Sunday.
https://soundcloud.com/cdee/ennio
3 minutes that really wants to be 9 minutes but, well, not today at least
There are some rough edges but for the amount of work I put into it I'm very happy with the result.
It's a very choir heavy piece which feels very inspired by Ennio Morricone.
Best listened to with plenty of bass, hope you enjoy

Man, you never know what you're going to hear next on this forum!
This is a fantastic first take on a very interesting arrangement. I love the choir with guitar and drums.

As a fellow Morricone fan, I think you paid him a great tribute. In the 60s there were a lot of Italian composers who made music inspired by Morricone (to name some, Bruno Nicolai, Riz Ortolani, Luis Bacalov)...they were great composers in their own right and not copycats and they went on to have great careers, I wish you will continue to make nice music too

I really like how you build up the song until the end. The drums are great!

Morricone with nordic influence eg, one of the many Swedish 'modern traditional' bands.
Very good piece, very nice mix.
Cheers.

I was thinking the same, especially at the beginning it reminded me more of something that could have fit in the Vikings soundtrack, rather than something Morricone could have written. Maybe the way the voices sound?

Very cool song, viking movie-like.
I like the way it builds. You kept the song interesting even if repeating the same phrase all the way down.
Again, awesome drum sounds. Very loud with nice tones. I liked the fills too.
This is a song I imagine hearing as an introduction song in a heavy metal concert. Maybe an Opeth one.

My daughter's friend is writing a novel about steampunk vikings who wear top hats with horns. If she could just manage to merge in some spaghetti western, this would be the perfect theme for them sailing off into the sunset in their air-ships.

Something in the vein of the opening of Hedningarna's "Vargtimmen"

Exactly! Wardruna come to mind too, even though my first thought was the soundtrack for Frostrune, a gorgeous adventure game:

Ahem, yeah, I was supposed to comment quite some time ago.
Well, now. I'm exactly sure what business you guys have in knowing much better than me about about all these Nordic "folk inspired" bands?
I even play in one sometimes (Utmarken)!
Regardless, thanks everybody for commenting!
It got me thinking that maybe I should try to make some more in the same vein... we'll see what happens.

The first thing I thought of when I heard the droning and the picking was that this would be at home in a classic U.S. western television show. Then, I heard the steel clanging in the background after what sounded like an intake of breath. This then converted my imagination from a basic western to a rail-laying chant.
