That's a possibility too. But then it takes me at least the same amount to add all the packages I need as it takes me to remove them in Ubuntu Studio. So I'll stick somewhere in between :)

True, true :D
I like Ubuntu minimal, with IceWM and a good theme. Runs on almost anything.

After trying and liking Crunchbang http://crunchbanglinux.org/ recently. I've been had a desire to try to install Ubuntu Studio on top of Crunchbang. Has anyone tried this? I would probaly wait until Crunchbang 9.10 is released, for the new kernel and hardware support.

I haven't tried it but am interested - just not sure which way to go yet. After bulking up my Ubuntu 9.04 with KDE, U'Studio, a whole lot of extra software, making various minor tweaks (removing Pulse Audio, etc), then upgrading to Karmic... I'm now wondering about reinstalling with something lighter.
Openbox seems to run on top of Gnome or KDE anyway - what about alternative desktops such as LXDE or Xfce?

I once had a lovely, fast and clean Xfce running on Lenny. Until I needed to install some packages, and compile a few others. Suddenly I had half of Gnome and a big chunk of KDE. That's the main problem with distributions, all the dependencies.
