FreeBSD

What other apps and distros do you use to round out your studio?

FreeBSD

Hello crowd :D

Has any of you had some experience with making music on a BSD system ?

Having had a look at the FreeBSd ports, it looks like every piece of Linux audio software is also available on FreeBSD. Yet the FreeBSD multimedia forum apparently only deals with media player topics (not many soft synths, sequencers etc topics)

Also, I wondered if the BSD kernel was suitable for half decent realtime work ?

I am rather interested in the FreeBSD platform for its stability, and strong Unix roots. I think I will have a go and try to get a working install this month anyway. But I also wanted to ask for hindsight from the people here :D

Greetings.

FreeBSD had quite a hype a few years ago, but somehow never really took off. I must admit, I've never encountered a FreeBSD system anywhere.

AFAIK, *BSD systems have quite horrible audio latencies. at least they did a couple years ago.
