Single MIDI->USB adapters are pretty cheap and reliable. The more expensive 4 port ones are even better, and also have the benefit of being able to squeeze all four ports into the same time frame as one 'normal' MIDI input.

The higher speed and lower latency of USB MIDI are tempting. The three bytes of a single note on need 1 ms on a traditional MIDI cable. Think of chords and more than one device on a MIDI chain then the latency can become audible.

But when you need cable lengths of more than 2 meters then USB MIDI can become unstable.
