Zoom/Skype replacement for Musicians on Linux?

Dear Linux friends,
My most burning question form me at this time.
Since the worldwide lockdown it is important to have a good video messenger tool.
Zoom has a music mode (restore original sound) which allows musicians to play together without altering the audio stream. Sadly zoom has not implemented that yet for Linux and it is unknown if they will ever do that.
The sound quality from Skype was also terrible, so i wonder if there is other video chat software for
Linux that implements the music mode (restore original sound) for musicians.
Have asked the question on Jitsu.org but no answer so far.
Anyone?
Thanks in advantage.
OS Release: openSUSE Leap 15.1

Hello,
try Jamulus or ninjam, they are specifically for making music unlike Zoom and Skype (or even Jitsi Meet, for that matter)
Also, welcome! This is the wrong section for this thread, however: this board is meant for discussion about the site itself

Moved it to "Linux Distributions & Other Software"

What does that actually do? You still won't be able to play together with that, as the network latency will be high enough to interfere with your timing, right?
For 'lessons' scenario's (not playing together at the same time), 'regular' videochat solutions like Jitsi might be OK - sound quality isn't that important there.
For collaborating on projects, the 'traditional' approach of recording tracks locally and sending the finished tracks around is still the best I think.

If that feature is not there than the sound of the instrument is distorted, choppy and has an echo.
Because zoom has the focus on speech and want to cut out other sounds.
Zoom is often used for music lessons not but not without that feature, have seen people playing together and would love to do that too but no idea if that was zoom or something else.
There seem to be many of these video chat applications but found not jet a good one for Linux. For beginners lessons it could still work a little bit but impossible for more advanced students.
Have asked this question on jitsu.org but no answer at all, but saw later more people asking for this.
Thank you so much for looking in this question and have a nice day.

I sort of got 'original sound' working in Zoom on Linux using pulseaudio. It requires you to either use headphones or mute your speakers (or it will squeal very badly).
1. In your Zoom meeting, mute yourself.
2. Also in Zoom, click on Share Screen \ Advanced \ Computer Sound Only \ Share.
3. Mute your speakers (or step 4 will cause a very loud squeal.)
4. In a terminal, run:
Your meeting participants will now hear the raw sound of your microphone. To stop sharing sound this way, run pacmd unload-module module-loopback in the terminal, then unmute your speakers and yourself in Zoom.

Could jitsi do the video, while jackd audio networking handled the musician part of the sound?

I actually opened a generic discussion on that in a separate topic:

WebRTC as a technology (which is what Jitsi uses, just as the open source server I wrote, Janus, and others) can definitely help you. The audio codec WebRTC uses is called Opus, which is not lossless but has good quality, and can be configured to be optimized for either voice or music. The main issue is that it was born as a browser-based functionality on the client side, and browsers don't support Jack. I think a dedicated client (maybe using GStreamer, which supports both Jack and WebRTC) could do the job, possibly using a server to help with the distribution of media among participants. It's something I'd like to start working on sooner or later as an experiment, but I'm just too busy with work at the moment.

Notice that you can get away with this if you're always capturing music with a microphone instead, e.g., voice and acoustic guitar. In that case, the browser should be able to find whatever microphone you've configured.

Hello all
There are various video conferencing options for musicians on Linux, including Jitsi, BigBlueButton, and Jamulus. It's important to consider audio quality and latency when selecting a platform.
I made a presentation at FOSDEM a couple of years ago that explains why regular conferencing services (like Jitsi or BBB) are not an option, unless you use them for something with fewer requirements (e.g. music lessons without an excessive need of synchronicity). As I said in my previous comment, it's more of an issue of what you use on the client side:
