Well after a complete diversion due to the current crisis, I've come back to trying to record music again. A problem with my old PC meant that I've have to scrounge and rebuild a new one. Ubuntu studio all set up and tested, Saffire 6 working fine on output only, so time to recompile the snd_usb_audio module. I've got this down to a tee where I can just compile that module after patching the quirks.h , and modpribe -r the original one and modprobe the new one back in again. I'll document this if anyone is interested.
However, we have a problem Houston! The new patched module loads OK, and the Saffire 6 inputs show up (which they don't with the original module) BUT, on this new PC everything plays back at about half speed and distorted. Reload the original module and everything is fine. This happens whether I use Jack or Alsa. With the new module loaded, I can record using the Saffire inputs, so that aspect is working, but everything is distorted including previously recorded tracks.
It's the same kernel version as before and the patch applies fine.
I can't for the life of me work out what is going on. The new PC isn't quite as powerful as the old one, but everything else works fine. With the original module loaded everything works fine (except no inputs are available, which was the original problem).
Anyone got any ideas or had similar? Sorry for raising this after so long, and especially after it looked like everything was OK.

A bit more information in case it helps anyone.
Quick summary. New PC, Saffire6 works with standard snd_usb_audio module for output only. No inputs show up. With patched module, inputs show up but playback and recording sound slow and distorted.
Took hard drive from old PC where Saffire6 worked perfectly with patch, booted up and it still sounds slow and distorted. This would appear to rule out software.
HOWEVER, I've got hold of an Mbox2, and this works perfectly on the new hardware. So I'm really confused now.
Obviously I can just use the Mbox2, but the Saffire6 is a nicer unit, and it would be good to get it working reliably.
I'm not sure what else to try now, but happy to try anything if anyone has any suggestions.

OK, last post in case it helps anyone, but I think I'm the only one interested now!
The saffire6 works perfectly on the new PC if I start a new session at 48k instead of 44.1k. Obviously a sample rate mismatch somewhere, but I'm fine with 48k.
Bottom line is that @puleglot patch works well for the Saffire6 1.1 USB, both at 44.1k on my old PC and 48k on my new PC. Thanks @puleglot . Time to make some music!

The patch is upstream and will be included in linux 5.9:

Good man. I applied it to 5.8.1 recently with no problems.
Thanks for your work with this, and sorry if I added any confusion along the way.
