Dreamplane - 3 new 80s synth pop tracks!

Post by oscillator »

Busy weekend, Kajsa recorded the vocals for three new Dreamplane songs!

We now have 11 tracks under the project name "Dreamplane", 80s synth pop, all made with MusE.

If anybody would like to do a remix I will be more than happy to send over the source files!

Dreamplane - Turned to Ash. Straight forward synth pop. https://youtu.be/2jsSquxaRd8

Dreamplane - Androidś Dream. Kind of a pastiche, but I like the rhythm of the chorus! :) https://youtu.be/A2jXWNzoT3Q

Dreamplane - Exodus. A ballad a la Rah Band if anyone remembers them. https://youtu.be/h-2vlpGoMbc

I hope you like it! It was great fun to make them!

This is usually not my genre, but I did enjoy the tracks! Maybe it's because they reminded me of Vacuum, which I think were Swedish just like you ("The Plutonium Cathedral" was a great album!). My only note would be on the vocals: the singer has a nice voice, but I think there should be some more effects on it, since it sounds too "clean" on the synth instruments, and so doesn't always 100% merge well IMO (maybe it's just missing some reverb?)

Great work!

Yes, I felt that too. Like they are on "different planes". I will try to make the voice more wet in the reverb settings and see if that works! Thanks for listening!

Nice songs. Turned to Ash is definitely my favorite. The backing vocals are nice, and the synth melodies are quite good. Android's Dream has a nice vocoder part. I've been wanting to do something with a vocoder for a while. Exodus also has some nice synth sounds.

I agree with the suggestion to make the vocals a bit "wet." Reverb can take you a long way, but don't forget about stereo delay, chorus, and other possibilities. In general you want to be subtle with those, but you can get away with a lot in electronic music. Another suggestion for "gluing" the vocals into the synths is to work with your mastering. Just a touch of compression, reverb, and EQ can do a lot to make a collection of tracks sound more like a cohesive song.

Thanks! The robot voice is actually not a vocoder, but a fun VST plugin: https://blog.wavosaur.com/text-to-speech-vst-vst-speek/
Unfortunately not open source, so I think I will ditch it for a vocoder in the future.

All synth sounds are made by Surge. It is great!

All good advice! There FX chain on most vocals is EQ (-bass +treble), Calf Vintage Delay and Calf Reverb. In Calf Reverb is just tried to dial down the "dry" and up the "wet" and I think this worked very well! But chorus is a good idea!

Thanks for listening!
