Minimizing X-Runs (what did the trick for me)

Hi !
I installed a new laptop for live gigs and practicing at home a few months ago.
The laptop is a Lenovo T540p with an Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4700MQ CPU @ 2.40GHz
8 Gig ram and SSD connected to a Motu Ultralite AVB that did work fairly well on my very old Fujitu-Siemens H710
From the beginning I did not get the performance i was looking for and many of my plugins did struggle and produced lots of x-runs, I did try different USB ports, rt-irq prioritizing with threadirqs and disabling Intel Boost and using Performance Governor (Ubuntu Studio Controls) but it did just barely work.
Pianoteq worked fairly well but U-he stuff did not work too well.. My super old laptop did run these things well so I was very perplexed.
After living with the problem and trying to ignore it I finally tried something (and I think this has been key in past similar problems on other computers I used) and disabled Hyper Threading in bios.
After that, my rigg has been running everything with no x-runs. I get some single x-runs when changing jack connections and other things that shouldn't give x-runs but when playing stuff on my keyboards and layering more than one plugins and using reverb and other FX things work just fine.
I hope this can help someone else that has x-runs and is out of ideas.
Regards, Anders
