My computer is a Dell Precision 3431, which comes with Ubuntu 18.01 preinstalled, and is as close as you come "Linux certified". It runs on a Intel Core i5 9500.
I do run the stock RT-kernel. I'll try and give the lowlatency a spin.

I'm now up and running on the lowlatency kernel from the AV Linux repos. Will wait and see whether it solves the problem of the freezes.
In installing the kernel, I encountered the follow issue:
The EFI runtime is disabled on the RT kernel, which resulted in the following warning when running grub-install:
And the grub was not installed. I solved this by manually adding "efi=runtime" to the kernel options at boot time. Just in case anybody else was having this problem.
