Dreamplane - 80s synth pop

Post by oscillator »

Hi all,

coming from a Cubase/Reason background, but being a FLOSS/GNU Linux user for a while, I finally made the switch to Linux audio production last summer.

This little project is kind of back to basics, with a focus on song making and refrains -- and having fun!

Music: Staffan Melin (Oscillator)
Voice: Kajsa Olsson
Location: Gothenburg, SWEDEN
Produced using MusE, drumkv1 and Surge as well as several Calf plugins.
All running on Debian 10 Stable/XFCE4 on a Core i5 laptop found in the recycling room! :)

Back to the 80s!

If you like them, this is our four earlier tracks -- the production is quite crappy:

Love it! "Patterns" sounds more like EBM than 80s synthpop to me, "Pixelated" definitely sounds more like something Vince Clarke would write. In any case, I like it very much!

Solid 80's sounds and good rhythms. Reminds me of my youth. (I must be getting old if that sound is coming back into style.)

My favorite part is the intro to "Pixelated." Nice wah effect on that synth. Also "The Shadow" has a really nice instrumental synth part starting at about 1:45.

I think the vocal performance was variable. That is not the strongest point of these tracks.

Hats off to the Surge soft synthesizer.

I think that is down to my lack of proper mixing skills...

Yeah ... but someone had to program the notes. :)
