Please forgive me if this is part of any of the other x-runs topics including one of the topics I started about a month-and-a-half ago but this is a question that I keep forgetting to ask. I have two USB external drives connected to my system and I'm wondering just as with Wi-Fi, wood these drives be contributing to x-runs?

Depends of what you gonna do with these drives. Do you know about 12309 "bug"?

No I don't know anything about it. I looked it up and all I was seeing basically was spelling issues and things like that in sector 9 or something like that.
I'm not having an issue with them but I remember reading somewhere in the system configuration I think it was from the fire wire side where they were talking about external USB drives and if you're using them set a higher priority or something like that. It's just a question I always wanted to know about x runs.

Indeed, not much of 12309 bug in English internet.
Briefly, some file operations with USB drives may drastically impact input/output waiting in Linux up to completely unresponsive GUI.
It depends of hardware, kernel, file system. For example try to copy big file to usb drive and watch the output of:
iostat 2

Awesome info.. I was thinking of having all the files, samples etc., that I use on the main drive.
